Hearing a sound, Creed turns left slightly, taking a few slow steps forward as he looks around, hoping to get a better view. "Cass? Can I get a light?" He says, trying to whisper to his friend.

"You uh- find anything?" Anderson asks Tess, stepping over to where she is examining the body of the deceased pirate.

Hikaru inches a bit into the open, standing near Tess while trying not to look at the grisly corpse unceremoniously decorating the floor. She'll protect me, right? She knows what she's doing. He nods to Cass, chiming in, "Agreed. Seen enough movies where people split up and get picked off one by one. Strength in numbers and all that, yeah?"

Creed takes another step forward, turning to his right to see if there's anything immediately visible. He keeps his spike thrower raised, loaded, and ready to fire.

"Yeah," Cass says to Hikaru, his tone dry as he creeps forward behind the pilot. "You remember those lessons, Glitter? Just keep that pistol trained on the ground until we see anything. These tunnels are tight. Let's all get through this without a laser pulse to the ass."

He makes sure to abide by his own instruction, holding the makeshift torch above his head, his pistol lowered.

She glances in the crate to see if Cass got everything, before following along behind Hikaru, trailing a few steps behind as she looks intently into the dark. "Copy that. Bringing up the rear."

A chill runs up Tess' back as she gets a better look at the corpse, noticing the spikes sticking into the dead pirate's neck. "She was one of the Kyo Maru," Tess responds. "It looks like she was ripped into. - and torn apart - by some sort of massive bug creature," she continues, motioning towards the spikes for the others to notice. "Whatever killed her left those embedded in her, and seems to have eaten part of her corpse," she continues, finding it difficult not to be disgusted by the sight. Don't vomit now, we have a job to do. I can clog up one of the crew toilets later.

"We definitely want to stay together," she confirms as Hikaru approaches her side. She bends down and reaches for the four thermal flares, before holding them up for all to see. "She had these. A gun too, if anyone wants to carry it. My pack is pretty full right now. Looks like another void carbine we can put in cargo for the crew."

"Full up with these demo charges," Cass says. "Maybe Creed here can spare the packspace." He tries to not think about Tess' account of the dead pirate, but the thoughts still permeate. It was fucking eating her?

Even with his nerves getting to him, the hacker falls back on his military training — or what little of it he received when it came to combat. "So we got some sort of xenovermin, that's for sure. Keep your eyes open. Anyone that can spare a hand, grab a flare."

As Creed steps around the corner of the tunnel, Cass's makeshift light is enough to light up the surroundings of the nearby tunnel. Unexpectedly the light illuminates a large white creature. It's cold black eyes, stare back at the pilot as it is lit up by Cass' glowbug. The pale white creature flexes the spikes along its back as it screeches an inhuman sound at the source of light.

Red blood like flecks mark its body and it moves as if with a limp, potentially already wounded by the pirates it faced before.

You hear movement in the dark towards Creed, however you feel like you maybe also hear something in the opposite direction, back behind you.

As the creature appears before them, Tess quickly rushes towards where the others spotted it. As soon as it comes into view, she grabs one of her newly-acquired flares and launches it towards the creature, immediately followed by a shot from her pistol. No time to waste, we have to end this as soon as possible. We do not want to be its next meal.

Tess' flare misses the creature but explodes in a violent bright light, briefly illuminating much of the tunnels behind it. The creature rushes forward towards Creed. As it does its tentacle like appendages fire a volley of the chitinous spikes towards him. They sail harmlessly past the pilot, however the beast is suddenly upon him, although his luck continues to hold and its claws fail to strike him too.

Anderson moves deeper into the mine, flanking the alien creature and taking a shot with his laser pistol.

"Fuck, fuck," Cass manages as the xenomorph is upon them in a flash. "There might be two," he calls out, using the chaos of Tess' flare shot to duck past the creature's appendages. He drops the makeshift wrench-light on the ground as he goes, stepping up onto a crate in the corner — eyes searching in the dark for any more coming from past the elevator. "I'll keep eyes back here." The ex-navyman slaps the switch on the side of his pistol and its frame expands, allowing him to shoulder it like a rifle.

Tess and Creed can handle that one. Kate thinks as she takes stock of the situation. "Covering this flank. she says, bracing her rifle against her shoulder, being careful not to point it at Hikaru, as she scans the corners and shadows for additional hostiles.

Hikaru's breaths waver for a moment, anxiety reaching new levels he didn't know possible. The hell did we sign up for? Our deaths? The pop star's eyes wander to the elevator for a moment, the escape, but he stops. No. He gulps, taking a slow, therapeutic breath and tightening his grip on the rifle. Stepping closer to the fray, he thinks back to his practice shots at the range, less dire but still the same actions, the same maneuvers.

Fuck this. If I'm going out, it's on my terms. Not abandoning my friends. And definitely not to some B-grade horror flick reject. Despite shaky hands, he aims and fires at the creature, his bravado-filled pep talk managing to leave some impact on his psyche. It only lasts a moment though before his jitters return, eyes watering as fear and desperation are impossible to push from his mind. We're in way over our heads...

As Creed steps back from the creature, it lashes out at him with its claws, striking the pilot. Despite the attack, Creed is still able to level his spike thrower at the monster and pull the trigger. Three clusters of metal fletchettes are magnetically accelerated out of the weapon in quick succession. The point blank range makes it hard to miss and the fletchettes rip into the creature. It let's out a blood curdling inhuman scream and tries to take another step forward, however as it does, it falls to the ground breathing its last.

Cass winces as the pilot takes a near-killing blow, but is amazed when his mag shotgun lets out a storm of metal, bringing the xenobeast down. Noticing the company miner still isn't with the rest of the Makkuro crew, he calls out "Anderson! Get by us!"

Tess sighs as the creature before them falls, glad that they were able to make short work of the strange beast. Her relief is short-lived, however, as Cass calls out to Anderson and no answer follows. She activates one of her remaining flares and proceeds back towards the corpse they'd found, only to find the fresh corpse of their escort before her. She careful steps forward towards his body, try to keep her guard up as much as possible. Shit, there's another. Please, let there only be one another.

Tess' flare lights up much of the mine, bathing it in a bright light that shadows dance across as she moves holding it. As she steps towards Anderson, she sees that two spikes have been embedded in the man's back, suggesting they came from the tunnel just ahead and to the right of the woman.

Anderson suddenly let's out another moan of pain, moving slightly as he does. It appears he isn't quite dead yet, but will likely be soon without medical attention.

Eridas is shaken up by the whole exchange -  his fear is keeping up his adrenaline but distantly, faintly, he can still feel the pain. He quickly looks around, trying to figure out where to go next - On a whim deciding to head down the tunnel he was next to, seeing if the tunnel continued onward.

With the first of their threats down and no reply from Anderson except muffled sounds of pain, Cass makes his way back toward his allies. "Creed! Yo! Stay with us!" he cries out, seeing the pilot frantically wander into the darkness on his left. The fuck is he doing? He can't take another injury like that.

Catching sight of Tess, he continues toward her. "Hey, see anything?" Cass asks her as he presses against the hewn cave wall, white-knuckling his rifle. "Did one of those things get Anderson?"

Hikaru's relief over the first creature's death is short-lived as it becomes abundantly clear another yet stalks them. He inches forward, eyes widening in peril as he sees Anderson dying on the ground. Fuck... Why didn't he stay with the group? Please don't die on us... Please. His body shakes a bit, nerves overwhelming him as the dread becomes too much to bear. Letting Tess take point, he stays by the rear, trying to prepare himself for an inevitable assault. "He's alive still, but he's not looking good," he manages to say to Cass, just barely maintaining his composure.

The unseen creature emerges out of the shadows, lurching towards Tess with its claws. Kate, seeing some of the creature as it attacks Tess, squeezes the trigger of her mag rifle. The shot clips the monster before embedding itself into the rock behind it.

The mag shot wounding the xenoform and Tess' quick reflexes mean she is able to quickly dodge its claws as they slash at her.

Seen only by Tess, a third creature emerges from the shadows deeper into the tunnel system. Still at range, its tentacle-like appendages shoot two more spikes at the assassin. One goes wide but another catches her in the arm.

As you listen out you hear another noise deeper into the tunnels to the south, suggesting a third creatures lies somewhere within the mine.

Of course there's more, Tess thinks, as a third creature steps into view, painfully launching its spikes at her and cutting into her arm. She winces in pain, but does not let it stop her. Focusing on the beast in front of her, and how much more difficult it would be to shoot up close, she opts to do a high kick, aiming for its monstrous face. Back the fuck off you disgusting creature.

"Anderson's hurt real bad and there are at least two more of these things,"
she calls out to those behind her, knowing that - at best - they can only see one of the things. As her foot rests firmly on the ground once more, she braces herself for the inevitable follow-up attacks of the strange aliens before her, hoping her companions can manage to finish off at least one of them before she is faced with more of the painful spikes.

Ah fuck, Cass thinks as the xeno comes into view. What the hell is that thing? He winces as Tess takes a piercing blow to the arm, and watches on in amazement as she sinks a kick right into its face. "Holy shit, holy shit," is all he can muster, also noticing the fallen Anderson, and a third creature further behind.

Cutting an angle back to a position of cover behind the crate, he falls to his knees, where he lines up a shot, hoping to take the creature down before it can further injure Tess. Despite his best attempts, the poor lighting, the panic, and the deep desire to ensure he doesn't shoot his friend, his laser salvo goes wide. "Creed, get the fuck over here!" he cries out through the cavern. "Bring that big fucking gun!"

Hikaru's beam burns into the creature, scoring its side with charred blackened flesh. The third creature again loosens two more spikes at Tess, with one grazing her shoulder. It then darts into the tunnel to its right, disappearing back into the darkness.

Eridas begins to panic, distantly he hears Cass' voice, then Kate's. He hears screaming ringing through his head and almost drops to his knees for a moment. "Stop..." He whispers, mostly to himself. He spins around wildly. "Where are they, where did I go..." He steadies himself just long enough to catch where the fighting is coming from, the pain from his injuries is becoming excruciating now as he catches sight of the bug distantly. He stumbles back towards the main room, still mumbling to himself. "Stop, no, stop, get out of my head!" He screams, blasting off a shot at the bug before crumbling to his knees, sobbing softly.

While she's listening, Kate catches a bit of Creed's mumbling, and glances at him. Oh fuck, he's shell-shocked to hell and back. This is real bad, I gotta get him back. She thinks as she takes aim and snaps off another shot at the aggressing alien that she can see.

She then turns and moves towards the man and kneels next to him, keeping a watchful eye out. "Hey brother, it's OK, we're right here, I'm with you. Let's get back to the others, yeah?" she says quietly to him, as she monitors the tunnel intersection they're in, a chill running down her spine as she feels very, very out in the open.

Creed's spike thrower blasts clip the creature, seemingly only to anger it. It screeches once more, rearing up on its legs to strike Tess with its claws. As it does Kate fires at it again. In a split second her rifle accelerates a tungstan projectile to hypersonic speeds. Almost instantaneously the projectile hits the xenoform in its head. Imparting all of its kinetic energy directly into the creature, it punches a fist sized hole straight through the monstrosity which slumps to the ground dead before it even had time to register Kate had fired at it.

Tess winces once more as another of the creatures' spikes grazes her, but she smirks as Kate manages to fell the one that had drawn close. As the third creatures skitters down a distant tunnel, Tess does the same, remaining behind cover at the edge of the intersection. She quickly peers out, spotting the creature in the distance, and fires off a shot. It goes quite wide, however, as she once more moves back into cover. These damn things. I hope this is the last of them.

Mechanics
Move Action: move right (see discord again), remaining in cover behind the wall.

Instant Action: pop head out of cover, spot alien, which has partial cover further down the tunnel

Goddamnit, everybody's spread out, Cass thinks, thankful at least Glitter is near. He watches Tess take off into the caves again, a shot from her mag pistol ringing out. "Regroup at the elevator!" he calls out. Licking his lips in anxious anticipation, the kneeling technician mounts his laser rifle atop the crate, waiting for all hell to emerge from the darkness.

As Tess' shot whizzes past the creature, it hisses before shooting a spike at Kate and darting back into the darkness from whence it came.

Luckily the spike sails past Kate harmlessly.

The creature re-emerges in the fringes of the darkness further down the main tunnel, in sight of both Cass and Hikaru. The duo wordlessly fire there laser rifles in uninson, their beams cutting across the tunnel creating streaks of white rock glowing rock in the tunnel and scarring the creature, as its chitinous exoskeleton begins to melt and warp under the power of the lasers.

It loosens a second spike which catches Cass in his exposed shoulder, burying several centimetres into his muscle.

Eridas' eyes were clamped shut, trying to push out the world around him. Through the ringing in his head, he barely heard Kate's voice, feeling himself grow faint. He slowly picked himself up, but felt like he was distant, somewhere else - He followed the lights he saw, hoping it would bring him to safety. Eventually, he saw Cass, though he still felt faint, trying to focus his eyes on anything, though he mostly failed.

"Hostile eliminated!" Kate calls out as her shot hits home.

"Sir! Yes, sir!" Kate instantly responds, upon hearing the order from Hikaru. "Retrieving our pilot, sir." She checks on Eridas, and seeing him rouse himself reassures her that he's not too far gone. Had me worried there. But we're not in the clear yet.

Feeling the sharp spine whistle past her, Kate flinches, and she pushes herself into motion, moving back towards the light of the elevator, along the tunnel wall to arrive just behind Hikaru. She takes aim down the corridor, briefly registers Cass get hit, and takes another shot.

"So assertive, Hikaru," Tess shouts back, as she rushes towards her friend, gun at the ready. "Has Marko seen this side of you yet?" she asks, before turning back towards the creature pursuing them. She shoots once more at the creature, and once more it goes wide. "Dammit," she mutters under her breath. Hopefully the others have better aim. I do not want to get hit by more of those spikes.
