"Good find," Cass says, noting where the air valve is to come back to shortly, when he needs it. "Gonna find the bridge."
He moves out of the mid-deck and into the corridor. Opening any doors that he has access to — left to right, then further in — he works his way toward what he assumes is the bridge.

Hikaru sighs in relief as they safely board the spacecraft without being spotted, though his nervousness doesn't subside as he knows they're not out of the water yet. "A few of us should take a look around the rest of the ship while you're doing that then. Not gonna be pretty if we find some extra baggage halfway into space," the pop star says, unsure if their new ship is as empty as it seems. He takes note of the sets of doors opposite each other, the elevator in the room's center, and the air valve. Guess he's going that way, he thinks, watching Cass wander off.
He peers through the doors opposite of where Cass went, spotting the reactor. That looks... dangerous. I'm not touching that. No way in hell. "Pia and Martine, you wanna check that side out? Then Tess, Marko, and I can take that for a ride," he says, pointing towards the elevator pad. "And Creed, uh, I guess you shouldn't stick too far from Cass."
He looks at his companions, hoping they're on board with his plan. Used to just having a manager tell me what to do. This feels... different. Good different. But fuck it, I'm in charge of my own life now.

Tess takes a mental note of the need for a gunner, and turns to Cass when he makes his comment. "I know my way around guns so I can probably figure out the targeting systems once we find them. Some of the newbies probably have experience with that too," she continues, glancing towards the ex-navy members. I sure hope they do. I can't be the only person on our crew who knows how to fight.
"Aye aye, cap'n," Tess responds to Hikaru, in a half-mocking tone, as he suggest she follow him into the lower depths of the ship. She gives him a salute that ends in a small flourish, before following her friend onto the elevator. Let's hope we don't have to shoot someone after we did so good making it here without conflict. "Time to cross our fingers and hope we aren't immediately ambushed within," she says, giving him a smirk, keeping her pistols at the ready in case her fears are realized.

"I could probably help with that," Pia says as Tess brings up firing the ship's weapons.
"I was in weapons systems training when the invasion happened," she explains.
Meanwhile Martine exaimines the door to the reactor room.
"I have some experience with reactor's too so good choice sending us this way," Martine says to Hikaru.
"The door is locked though so hopefully Cass can get us access." She says trying to open the door again as a demonstration only to get an error message about not being authorised.
Cass and Creed- [SHOW]
- As you head into the corridor you see that while none of the doors in the corridor have windows built into them, other than the door you just came through, they are in fact labelled. On the wall next to the stairs to either side of you are the words "Upper Deck", while the first set of doors bear the words "Crew Quarters B" and "Crew Quarters C".
Both doors open with a press of a button revealing two identical but mirrored rooms. They each have bunks for crew along with storage lockers and a large terminal built into the wall. As with the rest of the ship the rooms have clearly been deliberately emptied, although you see a photo of a young woman stood in front of a window on the Idarete Platform tucked into a panel by the pillow of one of the bunks and a couple of old Idaretian Navy uniforms in the storage lockers.
The next set of doors read "Crew Quarters A" and "Head". This crew quarters is similar to the last two although this is a smaller room and only has bunks for four. The head, leads to another small corridor with three doors which all currently display the words Vacant on a holographic display. Inside are small bathrooms with toilets, sinks and shower fittings.
The final set of double doors are signed as "Bridge & Ops", along with another smaller line beneath advising "Authorised Personnel Only". This time when you go to open the door, the controls flash red giving the same error Martine got trying the door to the reactor room.
Tess and Hikaru- [SHOW]
- Along with Marko you make the short descent on the elevator into what is clearly the ship's cargo bay. An assortment of crates and containers line three of the walls, although you can already tell a lot of them appear to have been ransacked like the ship's locker and armoury on the mid deck.
The wall towards the front of the ship is at angle and made of a different material to the other bulkheads, presumably the cargo ramp Marko mentioned earlier. A control panel of the wall beside it confirms any suspicions.

Cass sighs, pulling out his dataslab reflexively.
"I would have been surprised if they didn't lock all this shit down. After all, somebody could just walk up here and steal a ship, right?" he asks Creed through their suit comms, cracking a cheeky smile.
He opens up his custom framework app, trying to gain access to the door to override the lockout.

Hikaru glances around the cargo hold, taking note of all the potential places a foe, or horror movie monster, could be hiding. I gotta stop watching those movies alone... He looks between the bay and his two companions. "Guess we should take a closer look, yeah? Maybe someone left some goodies behind." He takes a step off the elevator, cautiously approaching the closest crate towards him and peering inside.

Tess shrugs, looking to her friend as he approaches a crate. "We might as well," she says, stepping towards another of them, and moving to try to open it. "Best case scenario, free stuff! I am always happy for free stuff. Worst case we find a stowaway, though I doubt anyone would be on board right now."

Cass and Creed- [SHOW]
- The lock gives Cass more trouble than the simple household locks he had cracked the day previous, but after a couple of minutes eventually the indicator changes to green and the doors slide open.
The room inside appears to be the Ship's CIC or Ops Room, with a multitude of displays on the wall and a large square table in the centre which looks to have holographic display capabilities. There are also several work stations around the edge of the room, presumably for managing things like communications, electronic warfare, and the ships weapon systems.
In two of the room's corners sit what Cass recognises as the ship's main computer servers - what you would need to crack to truely make the ship yours.
On the far side of the room there are two more unlocked doors which you find both lead into the cockpit part of the Furious Midnight's bridge. Three chairs sit in front of a plethora of displays and controls.
Creed- [SHOW]
- The controls and displays are clearly much more advanced than the shuttles and free merchants you have previously flown, and the ship is clearly designed with three pilots in mind. However you recognise most of the important controls and the setup appears to be easily customisable making you pretty confident you'd be able to fly the ship solo.
Tess and Hikaru- [SHOW]
- The three of you begin examining the cargo crates although it appears most of them are empty. However after a few minutes of searching you do find two which are not.
The first is one of the larger containers which you find locked by a 6 digit combination lock with a holographic display. You assume there must be something inside as the other containers were either already open or unlocked. The word Evidence is stamped above the combination lock.
The second is a large metal case which you are able to open after removing a pair of straps. Inside - nestled in a custom foam casing - is a sleek white panelled drone about 1 metre by 1 metre in size, with a pair of ballistic weapons of some kind mounted one on each side. The drone's flight system appears to be gravatic, meaning it would hover in much the same way a gravcar or gravcycle does, although you can see several holes in the panels for what appear to be thrusters, suggesting the drone is also capable of working in zero g.
Next to the drone, in its out cutout foam square, sits a small handheld control unit, which appears similar in design to a dataslab.

Lower budget, sure, but a tub's a tub. And a tub's got a... There. Mainframe.
Beelining for the servers, he pulls up his cracking toolset on his compad and gets to work.
"Might take some time here, Creed. Getting through a locked door's the easy part, and I'm guessing Idarete's got a bit more firewalls on their network."
As he works, he flips his suit channel back to the whole group.

Searching the cargo hold, Hikaru feels immense relief to find most of the crates empty. As he comes across the locked container marked as Evidence, curiosity and a hint of anxiety return. "What do you think's in there? What kind of evidence would be on a ship like this?" He looks towards Marko, wondering if the former Navy technician has any insights.
He shrugs, moving to another unsearched crate and spotting the drone within. His eyes widen, astonished at the find. "They left this behind? It looks almost brand new."
Hearing Cass' voice across the radio, he smirks, feeling that they're almost in the clear. Not too much longer til we're off this rock. Thank god... Radioing back, the pop star says, "Cargo bay's mostly empty. Got a locked container labeled as evidence, whatever the fuck that's supposed to mean." He shrugs, as if Cass can see him. "Plus a new toy. A drone someone left behind, still in its case."

- "Well the main role of the Idaretian Navy was anti piracy and anti smuggling operations. I'd guess it's whatever the crew seized on their last voyage before the invasion," Marko replies as Hikaru asks about the locked crate.
"They must have forgotten it," he says as you find the drone. "It's a Void Hawk if I'm not mistaken," he adds, admiring the drone with you.

"Right, right..." Creed said absent-mindedly as he wandered over to the controls. He looked up and down the consoles with a smirk on his face. "Oh, I'll love breaking you in." He said under his breath with a bit of a laugh. While he waited for Cass to break into the system, he began to familiarize himself with his new piloting controls.

"Well we should pop that open before we head out," Tess says, listening to Marko's words as she eyes the evidence container. "Cass, think you can crack this one too once you're done up there? If this is something dangerous, best we know now rather than in the middle of the void."
Turning her sight to the drone, she decides to step towards it and take a closer look. This will certainly come in useful, she thinks, imagining how nice it would have been even moments before, in their mad dash to get on board safely. So much we can do with a drone. I wonder what we should name it.

"A drone?" Cass replies, thumbing through a decryption process as he continues trying to break past the firewall. "Sounds like fun."
When Hikaru and Tess mention the evidence crate, his eyebrows raise. "Evidence — wonder if it collected by Idarete, or by the Diktat. I'm guessing it's contraband of some sort. Small arms, chems, something like that. But yeah, next on my list."

Cass carefully uses his multitool to unscrew a panel from the ship's mainframe. He attaches his dataslab to the system and gets to work cracking its firewalls. The minutes begin to drag on - the ship proving much harder to hack than anything else the last few days - however eventually after about ten minutes Cass gains access. He wipes the existing permissions in place for the ship and grants new ones to everyone aboard - for now ignoring the intricacies of a chain of command and other advanced features.
A few moments later Martine speaks up on the radio. "Whatever you just did made our job a lot easier. Initiating the reactor start up sequence now. It won't be long until we can get the hell out of here."

Cass sighs heavily, his muscles unclenching as he sits down in one of the stations' chairs. "Permissions are wiped. The ship's ours," he confirms, allowing himself this single victory. "Let's get off this frozen shithole."
Switching over to his local comms, he steps over to Creed. "Remember, pilote, we need to bring down their ground-to-air defense first. The generator's that way," the tech says, pointing portward. "You need anything, you let me know, ke?" He pats him lightly on the shoulder before setting off to find the others.
Evidence crate. Right, he remembers. Well, this whole tub's evidence, and now it's being confiscated. Hope you Diktat motherfuckers didn't have plans for it.

A wide grin spreads across Hikaru's face as he hears Cass's words, one of the first truly genuine grins in awhile. "Fuck yeah," he responds back, his prolonged tension and anxiety beginning to subside. "How's the reactor looking?" he asks Martine, hopeful that they won't run into anymore trouble as they approach their final takeoff.
God I hope everything's working. Not like the Diktat'll let us use their repair facilities. 'Oh hey, can you patch up this ship we stole from you real quick?' That'll go over well.

Cass heads back down the corridor and summons the elevator back up from the cargo hold. He descends and meets Tess, Hikaru and Marko by the evidence crate and the Void Hawk drone.
"It was shut down correctly and it looks like no one has touched it since," Martine replies to Hikaru via the radio. "And..." she begins, but trails off. "...we have fusion," she finishes after a few more awkward moments of silence than she planned for.
In the bridge, more of the screens begin to light up around Creed as the ship switches from battery power and powers up all of the non essential systems it previously wasn't using to conserve power.

"If it's supposed to be a bomb or something, I don't really know what the fuck I'm doing, but I guess we won't have to worry because we'll be a fine mist."
He uses his metatool, carefully prodding the locking mechanism's innards while he grits his teeth. As he works, he idly checks the O2 sensor, noting he's running out.
"Gonna refuel after this."

Cass easily manages to disable the lock, and the container's door swings open. The inside is full of identical smaller boxes stacked to about waist height. Opening one you find six glass bottles containing a dark liquid nestled in packing foam.
The label, a luxurious minimalist black and gold affair, reads;
Apridonia Island Whiskey
Alldis, 3187
Resting on top of the boxes of Whiskey, towards the back of the container are three medium sized plastic weapon cases emblazoned with the emblem of the VLCN - The Valetel League Coalition Navy.

"Huh," Cass manages, peering down at the whiskey bottles for a moment. "Guess I'm not surprised to see Alldesian whiskey being... what, smuggled, here?"

Tess grins as the crate is opened, revealing several cases of whiskey. She quickly puts her pistols away before reaching for one of the bottles and popping the cap off with the edge of the evidence crate, taking a small swig of the drink once opened. "Well, at least this will take some of the edge off this mission," she says, glad there is something to help keep her mind off the vast empty void they will soon find themselves surrounded by.
She sets her drink down and reaches for one of the weapon crates instead, opening it to reveal its contents. More firepower is always nice, she thinks, curious to see what lies inside.

Hikaru eyes the whiskey bottles with astonishment and a vague sense of nostalgia, immediately recognizing the label from countless advertisements around Strocho and hotel room welcome baskets on tours. Fuck, if only Kaze could see this. Who knows if he even liked the stuff though? Before he can even say anything, he watches with horror as Tess unceremoniously takes a swig from one of the bottles. Mouth agape, he remains speechless for a moment.
He blinks a few times, trying to break himself out of the daze. "Uh..." he manages, not even wanting to know how much a bottle may be worth. "This isn't just any Alldesian whiskey. Pretty sure this stuff's expensive and rare as hell. And you just... drank it like that." At least use a proper cup if you're gonna do that. Fucking barbaric.
He sighs, glad they still seem to have a fair bit of the supply left. "Let's not blow through this whole stock just to 'take the edge off,' mmkay? Least not until we find out how much they're worth."

The smell of the high-brow whiskey hits Cass after a few seconds, and he breathes deep. His middle-class family never had anything nearly this valuable back on Alldis, nor did he recognize the distillery's name. But he didn't need to — whiskey was whiskey, and whiskey was within reach.
He pauses his work on the weapon cases, momentarily, the all-too-familiar scent of liquor piercing his mind. After a long pause, he sighs. "I'll pass. Trying to stay clean."
Cass goes back to the weapon cases, though his eyes linger on the bottle. Once the cases are opened, his attention is brought immediately back to the contents.
"The fuck? These are Keshtans," he says, hardly believing the words as he says them. "League carbines. The jarheads use them for boarding assaults, or null-g operations in general."

"Suit yourself," Tess replies to Cass, before taking another swig of the drink. Turning to her friend, she says, "I've had my fair share of expensive food and drink, and this definitely tastes it. But there's so much here, even if we wanted to unload it for cash we've got plenty left. It's been a long couple days. Treat yourself," she says, before holding the bottle towards him.
As the weapon cases are opened, her eyes light up. "Military grade weapons, wonderful. And who better to use them than our new ex-military friends, hm? Unless any of you want to take one. I'm fine with my babies," she says, patting the pistols at her hips. And my big baby, of course, she thinks, remembering her new rifle that she's yet to use.

"That's alright," the pop star says, pushing the bottle away from him. "I've got enough other ways to unwind. Don't care much for liquor anyways." Except those fruity drinks on Alldis that one time. Those were... dangerous. Never again. He eyes the guns, recognizing the logo and raising an eyebrow. "Can't imagine Staris dealing under the table, but why would anyone in the Navy be smuggling? And why didn't any Diktat clowns think to check this?"

Cass sighs, shrugging. "When you have sovereign entities the size of the League or the Diktat, shit starts slipping through the cracks all the time," he explains. "You'd be surprised what happens on Alldis."
He nods toward the void carbines. "We should keep those on the ship, if we can. The rounds won't penetrate bulkheads. You know, in case we get boarded by any of the current roster of assholes who are out for us."
Standing up, he buckles the plastic cases closed and begins to store them back in the crate. "C'mon, let's refill these cheap, shitty vacc suits and get the fuck out of there." Once he's done refilling the crate, he heads back toward the midship deck where Martine found the oxygen tank valve.

"Why not," Marko says to Tess, taking his helmet off to have a swig of the whiskey. "Whiskey isn't even my kind of drink but that's not bad," he says after wincing at the burning of the alcohol down his throat.
"Ready to get out of here?" She asks as she sees you arriving on the elevator. "We've had a poke around back there now," she says gesturing towards the reactor room. "There's the life support controls, a med bay, and then the spike drive and engines. The drive and the engines look like they should work fine now everything is powered up," she says as her tank reaches capacity and she begins reattaching it to her suit.

Taking the bottle back from Marko, she takes another small sip and heads onto the elevator with Cass, filling his tank after he does so. "No gun control room, then," she says to Martine, as she explains the remaining rooms on the ship. "I guess that means I'll find those on the bridge, yeah?" I hope I can figure them out, we are not likely going to make it out of this system without a fight.

Smirking at Tess' comment, Cass finishes refilling his vacc suit, passing the valve pipe to her or whoever else needs it. Cut it pretty close there, he considers, noting only minutes left on his reserves. Glad I didn't suck my last breath out there. Or take a round again.
"The bridge is that way," he says, pointing toward the nose of the ship, where he left Creed. "But Martine's right, we should check what's upstairs before we gun our way out of here. Tess chuckles at Hikaru's reaction, the man living up to her expectations entirely. "As long as the kitchen works, it's better than prison food. Even if we can't make something now, having our own kitchen sounds lovely," she says, following the others up the stairs and into the next area.
Once in the kitchen, she nods and says, "perfect." At Cass' words, she walks over and peers down the corridor labeled as the officer's quarters. "There looks to be more than one, you can't have all of them," she says. "I count three. With the captain's quarters, that means private bedrooms for each of us. But who get's the captain's quarters? Should we draw straws?" A nice, large room sounds lovely. That one has to be the biggest. Maybe they'll be nice and just let me have it.

Damn, speak of the devil, Hikaru thinks, catching sight of the galley. "I guess this'll do. Could be worse," the pop star says, testing the cushiness of the couch he knows he'll be stuck using for some time.
With the checking of the rooms seemingly covered, Hikaru opts to search through the cabinets in the kitchen. Gotta be something we can eat around here, right? Better to make sure now. He looks up as his companions cross the room again, making their way towards the captain's quarters. I doubt it'll be that much nicer than the rest of the rooms. Military ships aren't really known for... decadence.
He rolls his eyes at the joking-turned-scolding between the two. "Oi, calm the fuck down. We're not gonna get out in one piece if you two can't keep it together," the pop star says, much of his prior anxiety having subsided after boarding the ship. "They haven't noticed us now, and they won't as long as we don't fuck something up."

On the other side of the door you find a short corridor which opens up into a room about two and a half times the size of the other officers' rooms. There is more furniture with several cabinets, a desk, and an arm chair. To the left of the room another door leads to a private bathroom.

- Rummaging through the cupboards and drawers, it appears most of the kitchen has been left as it was, with the storage full of Idarete Navy branded mugs and other tableware. In one of the cupboards you find several boxes of military MRE rations. While not the most appetising meals there looks to be enough to keep the seven of you fed for at least a week or two.

"The reactor's silent, but who knows what ambient heat or other signatures this tub gives off. I'd bet the landing's got all sorts of sensors," Cass explains to the popstar. "But fuck me for trying to keep us safe, ke?"
Beginning to see a trend here, the tech considers. I hope at least these three we picked up have some ship sense.
With a frustrated hastiness, he checks the captain's quarters before returning. "All clear. Ready?"

Hikaru grimaces at the MREs, closing the cabinet in the kitchen. "Well we won't starve. Got like a week of crummy military food, but it'll do."
He lets out a sigh, crossing his arms as the technician grows passive aggressive. "Freaking out and lashing out isn't gonna keep anyone safe. Keep your goddamn head on and we'll get out of this in one piece, mmkay?" he says, his tone somewhat annoyed but also showing concern. He hopes the junkie gets over himself and his paranoia, but doesn't necessarily blame him for it. "We've gotten this far, haven't we? Just have some faith for once in your life." Guess it's easy to lose faith when you're used to things not going your way.
"Let's get going. We can do this, together." I really just said that... God, I've watched too many pep talk scenes in anime...

Freaking out? Is he fucking serious? I try to keep us focused and I get this bullshit? Cass opens his mouth to argue, but holds his tongue. Gonna be out in spike space with the same people for a long time, he remembers. Make friends, not enemies. I've got enough of those already.
"Yeah, fine. I'm with you," he says with a sigh, before switching back to his group comms.
"We're headed back to the bridge. I think we're ready to go. Creed, how are we looking up there?"

Creed- [SHOW]
- While the others examine the cargo hold and the upper deck, you spend the time familarising yourself with the Furious Midnight's controls. With the ship now powered up and Cass' success at breaking it's electronic security measures, you're able to customise some of the settings and control surfaces to better suit your piloting style and to make it easier to fly the ship alone.
You find the screens for the ship's external cameras which show the soldiers and engineers continuing on as normal outside - clearly still unaware of your presence and the fact the ship is now powered up and ready to leave.

Creed lets out a small cheer, before looking around to make sure no one else saw him. He raised the others on the comms as he looked at the cameras; "So what's the plan, how are we gonna get the hell out of here?" He examined the cameras. "They don't seem to have noticed yet."

"C'mon, beratna, I just told you," Cass answers over the comms with a patient sigh. "But let's review it anyways."
"Okay, so that defense battery, at the end of the landing? That thing will turn us to dust if we try to pull anchor and run. Best guess is it's powered by the generator — that big fucker near the bay doors into the compound. We power up our guns, slag the generator, the Diktat chucklefucks lose power, and we fly off while their thumbs are up their asses. Ke?"
Cass turns to Tess. "Speaking of, you might wanna go poke around the gunnery station. I can help," he offers.

Hikaru blinks several times as the words echo through his radio, trying to make sure he's not dreaming. I... we.... did he not pay attention at all when we talked about the plan? He just shakes his head and lets out a sigh.
"Right, let's get you set up on those guns and get this show on the road," he says to Tess, ready to be free from the tensions within their ship already. Radioing Pia and Martine, he asks, "Everything still looking good from the engines? Anything you need down there?" Gotta make sure before takeoff. They're just as important for getting us off this rock as Creed.
