"Easy, newblood," Gerirl says to Aeron, cracking a smile as he massages his shoulder. "Look, Galain's not the only one I care about. I asked you if I could warn the people who deserve it, and you guys told me to stay quiet, remember? Almoza... the old man Fythred... and Bagrus, he's not so bad. Only Donleg's the real criminal here. Only he deserves what he gets."

He listens to Alierin, the smile long gone and replaced with a somber, distant look. "Yeah, well, alright. But Mother. She... you know, it's no easy task making ends meet with her being sick. Ali, maybe if you're making better coin from whatever venture you've got going on here, then I can go back to keeping my head down at the Low Docks. But we gotta do something."

The way he treated Galain begs to differ, Aeron thinks as Gerirl mentioned the very man he and Galain had tossed into the sea. "Didn't mean you couldn't have warned us that you were working with a Tribune's daughter." He shakes his head. "But what's done is done. And I'm sure Donleg will get what's coming to him, since crime is bad unless it's Clan-sponsored crime. So just... be careful who you get involved with." This city really needs a change. I only hope our people can help bring that about.

"She's a Tribune's daughter?" Gerirl repeats. "Well, she fooled the rest of us. Damn." He scratches his shoulder, looking curiously back down the road.

"Anyways, yeah, I'll play it safe. And thanks. Really," he says, a genuine look on his face. He clasps an arm around his younger sister, pulling her tight into a casual embrace. "I owe you guys one. I'll keep an ear out for any work that might need a pack of elves armed to the teeth, alright?"

"I know, but we've been doing pretty good so far," Alierin replies to her brother at his mention of coin and their ailing mother. She holds her coinpurse aloft, showing him the weight to it. "Good enough, you shouldn't have to take any risks - for a while at least."

She hugs Gerirl back as he embraces her, smirking at his comment. "We haven't struggled to find any yet, turns out there's quite a bit of demand out there for people with pointy sticks. I'm sure you'll find something for us," she says, eventually breaking off the hug.

"Yeah, Temlys's daughter," Aeron explains, raising an eyebrow at Gerirl's surprise. She just kept it a secret, huh. I guess it shouldn't be surprising. You don't want Donleg knowing too much about you.

"She's not wrong. But you know where to find us if you come across anything," he says to the offer with a genuine smile, gladdened that the night seems to have resolved itself, for now. "See you around, Gerirl."

"Bright and early," Aeron says back with a smile. "But not too early. I think we've earned a bit of a rest after today." From nokve to a dead body to this. I'm beat. Bidding farewell to the others, he makes his way home as well.

With two contracts complete today — in varying capacities — and a meeting set for Stout Hall in the morning, each of you make for your respective homes to retire for the night.
Alierin
You dream vividly tonight.

In one dream, you are walking through Vozto for what seems like hours, the district impossibly expansive. There is something following you, but every time you turn around, you still find yourself alone.

You pad down side streets, changing course. There are warehouses and offices and mills, all familiar and yet none of them recognizable. Your hands float to your pockets. Something heavy, something cold. You draw out a brass ring, along which are dozens upon dozens of keys of myriad shapes, sizes, and alloys. The footsteps are behind you again, the boots clacking against the stones. Faster, now. They close in on you, and you dare not look behind you.

Then, Ramjan Lumber. You see it. In a sprint, you grab the door, and find it locked. You have the key. You know you do. But which key among many is it...

You awaken with a jolt.
Aeron
You dream vividly tonight.

You recall being aboard some sort of massive rowboat, somewhere off the coast of the city at night. There are dozens of people on board — orcs, elves, even the spare human. They row in time with each other, and you feel yourself moved through the waters. You realize they are rowing at your command, at your cadence. You realize you've been sounding them off. In a flash of confusion, you stop.

They turn to look at you. Their eyes squint, their faces alit with what seems like sunlight. But from where? Their mouths open in unison, their faces in agony. Then, they all scream in deafening chorus.

You awake to a start.
Sisera
You dream vividly tonight.

You are on a great plain, the unfamiliar pollen of the grasses sweet on the air. A flock of birds sail above you, their calls sounding out across the expanse.

A great wind comes from behind you, where the mountains are ragged and seem to pierce the sky. It whips the grasses up into a frenzy, and suddenly you with it. At first, the feeling is unwelcome. You fight against the whipping winds, sending you tumbling through the air as if a lifeless object thrown. Then, something changes — you change. You are no longer being thrown. You move, you change direction. Wings spread from your back. You are flying. It is like nothing you've done before.

You awaken shortly after, the dream fading fast.
Vaughn
You dream vividly tonight.

You stand on the riverbanks, far beneath Clan Heights. The skies are orange, the sun vacant, leaving you unsure if you are seeing a sunset, or a sunrise. A distant noise draws your attention upriver.

Throngs of orcish men and women are standing upon on what look like canoes or floats, each one hastily lashed together. They look to be celebrating. As they sail past you, they call to you to join them.

You hesitate, but soonafter swim out and climb onto a passing edge of the flotilla. You are pulled up from a friendly hand, and into a festival of sorts, the dancing intense and the drums like thundering hooves. You are spun once, then twice, the music growing impossibly louder until your ears begin to ache.

Gaining your balance once more, you steady your legs. A spare glance downriver, and your heart sinks. The rapids close in. The partygoers seem ignorant or apathetic. There is no time to act, no time except to brace yourself. The massive flotilla creaks and groans under the stress, rocks shearing through the cords and bows like knives. The water reach up to catch you.

You awaken with a jolt.
Dessarius
You dream vividly tonight.

The heat of the forge warms your back, beads of sweat dripping down to the floor as you work. The clang of the anvil fades somewhat with each blow, like a heartbeat. You find yourself no longer at the smithy, but instead in what seems to be a dark cave. Every time the hammer strikes, the cave is illuminated — brilliant streaks of sparkling ore lining the walls, the soft glow of crystalline forms. And then, darkness. And then another clang, and a flash of light, and then darkness. You learn to move through this cave like this, in staggered fashion. Step forward. Pause. Step forward. Pause.

The cave narrows, then widens into an expansive cavern, dripstone reaching from floor to ceiling. There is something different here, you know that. You can sense it. The clang of the hammer, and the cavern is awash with bright light. And then it is dark. Then light. Only this time, something has changed. The walls of the cavern have cracked. With each new clang of the hammer against anvil, more cracks form and spread and conquer the walls until every last bit of stone seems ready to burst and collapse.

And then, with a great heave and an earth-shattering rumble, it does.

You awaken to a jolt.

We are taking a brief intermission until the 31st while we do a final roll call.

Etnadia, 6th of Paskago — 2E Y23

You awake at first bell — an hour until your meeting with Roof Boy outside of Stout Hall. It isn't long before the six of you find each other further down the hill from the hovels. From this overlook, you can see a new ship pulling into port at the Low Docks, the banners unfamiliar — possibly from the northern chiefdoms. A line of laborers wrap through the streets below, each one waiting to make the list to load or otherwise service the vessel and her crew.

You head down toward the docks, winding through the busy streets until you find the longhall — the doors open already as the sounds of chatter and merriment spill out.

Roof Boy stands nearby in his usual alcove, blending in admittedly well with the district's crowds. He nods you over, and you turn the corner off the main road where you can find a quiet spot.

"The job is done. Way I understand it, the old woman's through with you. Don't think you impressed her with those results, and besides, she's found some new blood to pull the ear of." He fishes a hand into a small pack at his waist, pulling out a coinpurse and handing it to Alierin. "Here's the pay. You ever need more work, seek me out. I can find you some. And not just for this employer, too."

Welcome to WWN!

The silver conversion has been done. I chose to convert 1 gp to 5 sp after careful consideration of WWN’s economy and where I feel the PC wealth should be at this point.

The pay of 20 gp each has been converted to 100 sp, and everyone's updated totals are below.

Some systems will now be in-place such as living expenses, which will be processed at the end of each week. You will be assumed to have a Common lifestyle going forward, unless you now opt to have an Impoverished lifestyle as part of this conversion.

Aeron rises out of bed, wincing at a previous day's worth of aches, and lets out a sigh. New day, new opportunities. Let's hope they're good ones. Meeting up with the others, he spots the familiar shade of their criminal liaison and steps over.

"That's probably for the best. I don't think any of us wanted to be her lapdog forever," Aeron remarks to Roof Boy, feeling a wave of relief wash over him. He cocks his head at the orc's offer. "Any of that work not involve smugglers?" I think I've dealt with enough smugglers for one lifetime... What other criminal enterprises can we find ourselves wrapped up in?

"Yeah that's fine by me," Alierin agrees with Aeron, glad to be free of Piatenka's grasp. She pockets the coin to redistribute later. It's win-win really. We saved Gerirl and got her off our backs too.

She laughs at Aeron's question, intrigued by Roof Boy's potential answer. Even if it doesn't involve smugglers, he doesn't strike me as the type to have much legal work to offer us. Not sure Aeron would go for that.

"You know where to find us," Aeron says, waving as Roof Boy departs. And even if we weren't always here, he'd find a way I'm sure. He looks to his friends, cocking his head toward their usual haunt. "Should we get to it, then? Hopefully fewer conspiracies on the job board today."

Sisera awakens from her dream, eager to take a break from the life she has found herself in over the past few days. The night before, she and Tesni had a long talk about their time together, about what is to come, and Sisera's yearning to be free of the monotony of city life. At the other woman's suggestion, Sisera resolves to spend some of their earnings on a horse and to see what the frontier beyond the city gates holds in store. Tesni, meanwhile, informs her that she would like to meet the new friends she had made, and take her place for a time in working to aid those in need around the city. Together, the two both make their way towards Stout Hall for today's meeting.

At the hall, Tesni hangs back some while the others speak with their orcish companion. Once he is gone, Sisera speaks up, in her native tongue. "I won't be joining this time," she says matter-of-factly. "I've bought a horse, I want to see more of the outside. If I find something that would be good for us to pursue, I will let everyone know." She pauses, feeling less sure of her decision as she had the night before. Turning to the other woman, she motions for her to step forward and introduces her. "This is Tesni, I've talked about her before. She insisted on joining you all in my place for now, she has been wanting to get to know you too."

"It's a pleasure to meet you all," the other woman responds, her blue skin and pale hair in stark contrast to most other elves the rest of the group has likely come across, as well as her numerous astrological tattoos. "I have heard many good things about each of you, I hope I can be of as much assistance as dear Sisera has been." She wears a wide smile as she makes herself known, stepping forward to shake the hand of each of you in turn. Hopefully a good first impression, she thinks to herself, her kind expression hiding the lack of confidence she feels, both in her decision to venture away from the slums, as well as in making new acquaintances. The flock will be fine without me for a day, yeah?

Roof Boy slinks off. Somehow, you doubt it's the last time you'll see him.

Inside the hall, Cymril takes Tesni's hand, bowing her head knowingly. "Tesni! It is so good to see you again!" she says, smiling wide. "You're in great company, here, with my cousin and the others. And I'm sure we could all use your guidance."

She sighs dramatically. "I hate to admit, but I won't be joining this time either. My father needs my help preparing for Cantors Night, tonight. You all should come if you're interested! I'm going to be performing a few songs with the elders."

"Welcome to the team," Alierin says as Sisera and Tesni trade places, though she acts a little reserved towards the new comer, despite already knowing of her and her flock. Her guidance? What does she know of the city? She balks internally at Cymril's words.

"Not really my thing," she says at the mention of the Cantors Night. "I'm sure this one will be there though, supporting his cousin," she adds, giving Aeron a playful nudge with an elbow.

"Hopefully you can join us for the next one Cymril."

"Yeah, welcome! We've heard a lot about you. Glad to have you," Aeron says to the newcomer with a smile. "Be careful out there, Sisera. But I know you can handle yourself." He looks to Cymril, frowning slightly at her word but understanding the importance of Cantors Night. "Tell your dad hello for me, Cym. We'll try to drop by depending on how today goes."

He gives Alierin a knowing smirk, nudging her back and shaking his head. "Both of you are always welcome to join us anytime. But in the meantime..." He looks to Tesni. "So, do you want to see what we can do today?"

"Ah, Vaughn! It is good to hear that he's well, he is a good man," Tesni responds to the young elf, after shaking. "And it is a shame you won't be joining either, Cymril," she continues. "I'd have loved to catch up, but perhaps I will see you this evening instead." Turning now to Aeron, she continues still.

"Yes, please, I would love to see what it is you all have been doing, and help as best as I am able. Sisera has regaled me of your jobs of late, but she is not exactly the boisterous type, I am sure they have been grander and more exciting than her explanations and I'm eager to join in on them. It will be nice to get out some. I can't say I've had much time to see the rest of this place."

"Well," Sisera, says offering a meek smile and a slight wave. "I'll be off for now. I'll be home later, for dinner," she says to Tesni, before turning back to the others. "Try not to get into too much trouble," she continues to her companions, before turning and heading towards the city's stables.

Tesni waves, turning back towards the others. "Well, what's the job, then? Some more hunting of criminals?"

"Yeah, we'll have to see what jobs are on the board today," Aeron says back to the excitable Tesni, giving Sisera a wave as she departs. "Be careful out there too, alright?"

He looks to Alierin and nods, still curious about the treasure despite Kenver's departure from their group. We really have had a lot of people come and go. Only her and I left from the very start, with Cymril and Sisera gone today. He lets out a sentimental sigh before burying the thought and trying to turn to the task at hand. "Beamon also mentioned we could seek him out for work. If he's pulling strings for us, the least we could do is see what he's got."

Dessarius
Dessarius awakens with a jolt, sitting upright in his bed. He sits like this- drenched in sweat, panting, his fists clenched ready to defend himself... only to relax as he takes in his surroundings. He looks over at the sleeping form of Charon as he slowly stands, praying he does not awaken his friend. He walks over to his mirror and examines himself, seeing several scars but also injuries from the day before, some still sore to the touch. "Dess? Are you alright? Come back to bed... you don't have to be up yet." Charon speaks softly, looking over at Dessarius. "I don't think I'll be able to sleep again. I had a... dream. And it scared me." He says, and now removed from the source of the fear, he feels silly. Of course, he was never in danger, but it felt so... real. "If it was your dream... do you want to talk about it?" Dess hears the words but shakes his head. Slowly he returns to the bed and sits down, leaning in close to Charon. "It was only a dream. It was nothing." He says and kisses Charon's lips.

As Dessarius starts his day, he explains to Charon about the excitement of the day before, and only after a healthy amount of skepticism over whether or not Dess should continue to take time away from the forge if it puts his life at risk... Dess eventually pulls himself away from Charon, and promises to return later in the day.

As he walks down the street he finishes adjusting his gauntlets, and approaches the others in the Low Docks. Pushing the morning's anxieties aside, he puts on a warm yet small smile, while looking at the others. "Oh good, that's exactly the sort of news I wanted out of this morning," He says, "I'm sure we'll always look forward to new work." He nods.

A few moments later, he waves 'goodbye' to roofboy, and as Sisera introduces Tesni, he gives a firm nod. "Good to meet you Tesni," He says, and offers Sisera a handshake "And I bid you good tidings on your journey.". His eyes shift over to Cymril in turn, and frowns Two people are leaving? I feel like my coming is an ill-omen, suddenly. Perhaps my dreams did have some meaning to them. He thinks somberly.

"I'm new here, but I hope my two coin are worth as much as any other's," Dessarius speaks up after Aeron, "Aeron is right, perhaps we should seek out Beamon. The job board is always there, but we should at least hear this one out."

With introductions made, the group of you pile into Stout Hall amidst the morning rush of those seeking breakfast, gossip, or simply a flagon of ale.

It takes a moment to sift through the job board — a fair amount of graffiti or lewd messages or practical jokes left by various patrons.

  • Beamon was supposed to be setting you up with mildly lucrative work through his contacts at the docks. It might be worth checking in with him. You recall his home is in Shoreside.

  • Kenver's tale of the Fangs of the Dorak may be peculiar, but who knows what sort of mysteries or treasure await throughout the sewers, caverns, and underbelly of Groznid?

  • In a forgotten corner of a dark cave in Movek Point rests a metal door, built firmly into the smooth stone wall. What could be behind it? A few tools, some elbow grease, and a half a day's work might give you the answers you seek.

"The usual dreck" Alierin says as she scans the postings on the board, spotting the tapestry house advertising and conspiratorial ravings that had been there on their prior visits to the Stout Hall.

"That probably has something to do with the smuggling the bay," she adds, reading the newest posting. "Maybe we stay away from that."

"Looks like we stuck with our own leads, Beamon's job, the fangs, or we could get some tools and crack open that door we found in the novke caves - might be nothing but you never know."

"Right, the door," Aeron says to Alierin, absentmindedly browsing the job postings. The Tapestry House is nothing if not persistent. He shrugs. "Maybe we should wait a couple more days though? To let the caves air out a bit more, and let the nokve get back to normal. We can see what Beamon has instead of burning our eyes again."

"This 'Tapestry House' sounds quite interesting," Tesni says, after looking over the posted jobs. "I wonder what sort of new chances they might offer?" she muses aloud, finding it to be the only notice posted that doesn't seem like it could result in her death or injury. Catching killers is certainly important, and I fear for those who faces this person, but I am not sure that is something this group is good at. At least not from what Sisera has told me.

"If you've already got some leads on interesting work, then happy to follow along. As intriguing as that 'Tapestry House' sounds, I'd rather go with what you all think will be most suited to this little group. Who exactly is Beamon, anyway? Someone you've worked with before?"

Dessarius glances over the notice board, then glances away with a shrug. His eyes are drawn back towards the board, however, staring hard into the Tapestry House. "New chances, huh? I wonder what that means." He wonders out loud, poking the paper. "I don't know why but I have a good feeling about this one."

You take your leave from Stout Hall, stepping back out into the busy streets of the Low Docks. Following the crowded roads south along the oceanfront, you weave through the tangle of homes and businesses that sprawl in no deliberate direction — simply the inevitable result of a growing Kurnish city with many bodies and much coin to be made.

You reach Shoreside after a quarter hour, the homes a dichotomous split between unassuming bungalow and palatial estate. Beamon's home is the former, a squat building made of spruce and limestone, though nearly twice as large as the hovels you come from. The man is just leaving out the front door as you approach. Middle-aged and thick in chest and belly, he wears simple garb and a worn cloak pulled around his shoulders. Catching a glance at you, he hails you over.

"Good morrow, my young friends. It's been a few days," he says with a thin smile that hardly reaches his eyes. "I see you've lessened in number. But otherwise, you all look as fit and healthy as I remember. I take it you're here about work, yes?"

"Morning, that we are," Alierin says, greeting Beamon's thin smile with one of her own. Healthy and fit? This is going to be some shit manual labour job isn't it? She thinks.

Aeron returns the smile to the orcish man, grateful to see him in seemingly better spirits than the last time they'd met. "Yeah, we thought we'd at least come by and see what you'd found for us," Aeron says, hoping it's not a day of mundane dockwork or something similar. Surely he knows our capabilities by now, right?

"Well, it's not me that has the work for you, but my boss," Beamon says with a shrug. "I can get you a meeting with him right now. I'm actually on my way there myself to start the day."

He sighs deeply, running a hand through his thinning hair. "It's kind of a long story, but you might have already heard bits and pieces around the Low Dock. My boss, Kauza, runs a specialty workshop that patches up the vessels that frequent the Low Docks. We keep them seaworthy and all. Anyways, after some real horse-shit went down with some of the landlords who own the berths, suddenly Kauza's been blackballed from accessing them, and all of us — myself included — just lost access to our main source of customers. We're having to row all our gear out to Movek, Southward, or even the isles."

"On top of that, some hooligans came by and busted up the workshop. Broke some windows, kicked down the door, even stole from Kauza. Now it may be just a coincidence, but he's pretty damned sure it's one of these landlords — sending thugs and all after us. Just don't have the proof yet. That's where you'd come in. That, and I dunno, getting these negotiations back on the table. We need that work, and we needed it yesterday."

Beamon looks over the group of you, cocking his head to one side. "Kauza's got the coin you'd need, even if it's drying up quick. Plus, you'd be saving my old bones from having to go back to standing in those lines to see if just maybe I get to work today." He sniffs, averting his gaze. "Uh, no offence, Kumara bless 'em all. I know for a lot of your kin that's their only prospect."

Dessarius walks with the group, and he gives a soft nod as Beamon explains. "I understand. I'm sure we can find out what happened, get you the proof you need." He says, and looks towards the others. "I'd say we're pretty good at sleuthing."

Aeron listens to the aged orc weave the tale, nodding along as the details of the job are explained. "What exactly went down with the landlords?" the elf asks, wanting the full picture before they commit to it further. If these landlords are also Clan members... Probably not though. Probably petty like Amake. "I guess we can ask your boss himself though."

He looks to Dess, giving a quick nod. "He's not wrong, if yesterday is anything to go off of." I'll just have to keep him from accusing anyone of murder again. He lets out a sigh and looks to his friends. "Let's hear him out? Coin and service, two good things."

Landlords. They can't just be content with their own wealth, they have to make sure the rest of us are kept down, Alierin thinks with distain as Beamon speaks. Though dealing with the docks again, we better not end up knee deep in another smuggling operation.

"Sure, sounds worth at least looking into," Alierin says to Aeron, still glad the work on offer is something more interesting, and likely lucrative, than a regular shift on the docks.

"No idea," Beamon says to Aeron. "That's Kauza's deal, and most of us work too hard to hang around and gossip. Come on then, I'll lead you there. It's not far."

He begins to lead you back through the streets of Shoreside toward the coast. Casting a look over his shoulder, he nods toward Dessarius. "Since you mentioned, what happened yesterday? Just curious," he says, giving you a placating smile.

Aeron frowns at the orc's curiosity, knowing he brought it upon himself. His nose wrinkles, as if the pungent odor of the smelling salts is still in the air. "We helped figure out what had the nokve so riled up along the coast... and uncovered the truth of a mysterious death in the nokve caves," he says somewhat awkwardly, a sliver of pride in his voice.

"Hopefully this investigation doesn't uncover any deaths," Alierin adds, thinking of the reason there are here with Beamon in the first place. Or lead to any, she thinks, her mind drifting to the fate of Kiros' crew.

First day on the job, and we are negotiating with landlords? Tesni thinks. I feel like I have not even left home, it is the same there. What is it with the people of this land and their obsession with controlling it? Do they not feel any sense of camaraderie towards one another? She tuts and shakes her head, happy to allow her new companions to make the introductions. At least we are going to offer our help, it seems a worthy cause. And certainly less dangerous than that cave of small 'nokve' creatures.

"I have spent much time speaking with landlords on behalf of a number of acquaintances, I am sure I can be of some help here," she responds, both to reassure their patron as well as her new companions. She offers the man a polite smile, and a reassuring nod. "We will get to the bottom of this for you, I'm sure. You'll be back to work in no time."

OOC
Please keep in mind Tesni's well met status for these interactions, and in general:

"Reaction rolls made by those the party meets are given a +1 bonus so long as you are present, whether or not you do the talking. Even hostile encountered beings will usually give the party a round to parley before attacking unless they’re in ambush or have a clear reason for immediate violence."

"Yeah, hopefully," Beamon says to Alierin, a deep sadness present in the sudden quiet of his tone. You follow him through the alleys of Shoreside for a bit, arriving in a small artisan wing of the neighborhood where small workshops and storefronts selling specialized wares line a cramped street that runs toward the water's edge. "We're here."

Before you is Kauza & Sons, a small warehouse built in the last couple decades or so, the sturdy beechwood walls hardly aged or warped like many of the buildings in the city. A long, shallow shopfront breaks off from the main warehouse. Where windows should be are several boards nailed over. A pair of workers are in the midst of setting a newly finished door into its hinges. They notice Beamon's approach and wave the group of you through.

Just inside, a tall and portly orc leans against a desk, watching the door replacement efforts with a distant look. An alertness snaps over his face at your approach. "Beamon," he greets the man, his voice tight yet weary.

"Boss, these were the folk who found Berek. Figured they might be able to help. I told them the basics, already — hope that's alright."

The boss sighs, standing up from the desk. "Yeah, that's alright. Name's Kauza. Nice to meet you and I hope Beamon's right about you. So, you're what, soldiers? Never seen a group of elf-folk both as young and well-equipped as you lot." He glances across your various arms and armor, hardly hiding an impressed look.

"Concerned citizens," Tesni responds with a confident smile, not waiting for the others to speak up first. "Just people looking to make life a little better for everyone in this city, ourselves and our families included. And from what this man, Beamon, has told us, you could use some help to make the lives of you and your employees better," she continues, hoping to ease the man's mind.

It is rare for the locals to look upon us with a sense of trust, rather than dismissal and distrust. He must be more open-minded than many of his kin. Perhaps he will make a good ally. Perhaps, if we help him with his landlord issues, he might even be willing to hire some of the other elves for his business, she muses, imagining the potential benefits to their success despite not yet even knowing what needs to be done.

Mainly ourselves and our families. Anyone else is incidental, we're not a charity, Alierin thinks as she listens to Tesni, rolling her eyes at her words, though she decides not to voice her feelings in front of a potential client.

"More like independent contractors. We may be concerned but we don't work for free," she adds.

"Yeah," Aeron says with a nod toward the other two. "We've helped out Beamon, like he said, so hopefully we can help you out too." He manages a slight smile, his mind still plagued by the events of the night prior and the nightmare he'd had. Just gotta focus on today. Maybe we can do some real good, without anyone else getting hurt.

"Could you tell us a bit more about the situation? Every detail could help, even the insignificant ones, in our experience."

Dess follows along, nodding quietly along to a tune in his head. I wonder if the others had similar dreams through the night. Perhaps I can ask them later, if we get a break. He looks up at the warehouse as they approach, trying to hide his distaste of landlords, though for a moment it shines through.

As he listens to Kauza talk, he forces a small smile, and nods at Aeron's words. I hope we're done with this quickly... I don't want to be out past dark again.

"I'll get to work," Beamon says to his boss, turning back to you. "Good luck."

Kauza sighs again, waving Beamon off. "Yeah, alright." As his employee leaves, the portly boss stands up from the desk, stepping over to where a window should be, instead running a hand across the boards there. You notice he walks with a hunch. "It's Groznid. Nobody works for free. Concerned citizens, independent contractors, all the same to me, as long as you can fix my problems."

"Don't know what Beamon told you, so I'll start from the bottom. My company's been banned from working on the Low Docks by a couple of the folks who own them. Let's say I've never had the best relationship with two of these people in particular, but things really fell out about a week ago. It was sudden, too. Caught us off-guard, honestly.

"I went down there myself and made a stink but they wouldn't even take a meeting. Two nights later, somebody shows up to my workshop here, busts in, breaks some of our tools, and stole some property of mine. I got a damn good feeling it was one of their little goons."

"Look, I'll be honest: I got a lot of things need doing right now. I have to get these idiots to the bargaining table, get a negotiation moving that lets my men back on those docks. I'm also sniffing for proof on these vandals so I can turn them in to the Clan, maybe even get restitution awarded — though I ain't hold out hope there. And — I want my damn cane back."
The last words are delivered with a growl. "Bastards knew it was mine..."
