The RV's tyres squeal as the vehicle lurches forward. One of the guards dives aside, hearing the vehicle coming through the smoke, however the other is caught by the RV which pins him against the closest corpo SUV as it ploughs into the roadblock, causing both cars to rollback slightly from the impact. As a small gap between the car and RV forms, the guard drops to the floor.

Go Ryoko

Mechanics
Reiji: drives, 14 vs Dex/Exert;

Guard 3, 4 = fail, evasion save 14 = saves,

Guard 4, 5 = fail, evasion save 1 = fails, takes 35 damage, TD 5 vs TT = normal hit, kills.

I'm also going to rule that you wouldn't be able to hit the guards hard without going fast enough to not crash into the parked cars. This wouldn't be at full speed though so the damage will be halved.

Corp SUVs take 35/2 = 18 damage reduced by 9 due to armour for a total of 9 damage each. Both at 21/30 HP

RV takes 30/2 = 15 damage reduced by 6 due to armour for a total of 9 damage. 24/35 HP

Ryoko is caught off-guard by the sudden acceleration, jostling slightly in her seat as their vehicle rams the nearby guards and other vehicle. Dammit, a warning would've been nice, she thinks, as she reels from the impact and the sudden start of hostilities. Guess we're not getting out of this without a fight.

Finding herself with no easy path to their enemies, she decides to reach through her bag to produce one of her newly-created suicide drones. Finding it, she places it down and commands it to move into a perfect central position to blow as many of the guards up as possible. "Back us up, I put out an explosive. Will blow these guys to hell once we're out of range, as far back as you can get," she says to Reiji, as quietly as she is able while he can still hear her, hoping none of the men outside were able to.

Mechanics
Main Action: Ready/deploy drone Kami

Move Action (drone): move under RV near to where Guard 3 is standing, though aiming to stay as obscured as possible in the smoke. Goal is to be not under any vehicles so it is safe if Reiji backs up.

THROWABLES

Flash Grenade
1d20+4 to hit (bounce 1d10 meters on miss), 10m/30m range, 5m radius
Effect: targets without sufficient protection make a physical save. On a failure to save, affected targets lose their next Main Action and take -2 to hit and to AC for 1d6 rounds. Effect does not stack, and cannot be applied more than once in the same round.
Remaining: 1/1

Gas Grenade
1d20+4 to hit (bounce 1d10 meters on miss), 1d10 non-lethal damage, 10m/30m range, 5m radius
Effect: creates a zone in affected 10m diameter that damages all targets within, then dissipates in 1 round. A successful physical save halves the damage, and breathing protection prevents damage entirely. Creatures in the zone gain full concealment until the gas dissipates, except against creatures with IR or augmented vision.
Remaining: 1/1

* I treat all enemy AC as 10 for the purposes of shock, assuming they are not immune to shock entirely

EDGES

Wired: You may begin play with up to $200,000 worth of new or secondhand cyber. You don’t need to pay for installation and its maintenance is covered for the next two months. You can redeem this Edge later in your career by paying double the cost of the cyber you selected; if so, you can trade this Edge in for a different one with the GM’s approval.

On Target: Gain shoot-0 as a bonus skill. Your basic attack bonus is equal to your character level, instead of the usual half level, rounded down.

FOCI

Shocking Assault-1: Gain stab-1 as a bonus skill. The Shock damage of your weapon treats all targets as if they were AC 10, assuming your weapon is capable of harming the target in the first place and the target is not immune to Shock.

Drone Pilot-1: Gain Drive and Fix as bonus skills. You acquire or start play with a Remote Control Unit cybersystem and its installation. Through connections, scavenging, and parts repurpose, you have free drones and their weapons and fittings worth no more than the budget given on page 18. You can repair these drones without needing spare parts, and destroyed drones can be replaced with a week’s work. You always have the equivalent of a drone repair kit on you at no Encumbrance cost.
INSTALLED CYBERWARE
Emergency Stabilization Factor
$30k | Body | Medical | Sys. Strain 1
Effect: When brought to zero hit points by an injury that does not instantly kill them, the user automatically stabilizes, gaining one System Strain, and will regain consciousness at the end of the scene with 1 hit point. If they are already at maximum strain, this cyberware does not function.

Dermal Armor II
$80k | Skin | Touch | Sys. Strain 2
Effect: Heavier subcutaneous plating acts as Dermal Armor I with a base ranged and melee AC of 18, and +1 to trauma target. In addition, the user can ignore the first instance of Shock in a round.

Muscle Fiber Replacement I
$50k | Limb | Touch | Sys. Strain 1
Effect: Artificial muscle fibers are implanted as replacements for the user’s own flesh. The subject gains a Strength score of 14, or +2 if already 14 or higher.

Cybereyes (pair)
$10k | Sensory | Touch | Sys. Strain 0.25
Effect: These cybereyes are clearly artificial, though most are styled in attractive or striking fashions. They all have perfect 20/20 vision and integral flash protectors, but additional functionality must be implanted separately. A user with a pair of cybereyes or syntheyes halves the System Strain cost of cybernetic eye implants.

Eye Mod/Infrared Vision
$5k | Sensory | Medical | Sys. Strain 0.25 (0.5 halved)
Effect: The infrared vision this mod allows permits basic navigation in dark areas and makes the presence of heat sources such as humans, engines, and infrared tripwires very obvious. The user gains a +1 bonus on any Notice checks to detect the presence of thermally-unshielded living creatures.

Gunlink
$25k | Sensory | Touch | Sys. Strain 1
Effect: Hardwired control points interface with the onboard targeting systems of most modern firearms. When using a modern firearm, the PC ignores range penalties and negates up to 2 points of hit penalties for cover, concealment, or prone targets. Once per scene, as an Instant action, they can reroll a missed attack roll with a gun.

Remote Control Unit
$10k | Nerve | Touch | Sys. Strain 2
Effect: A neurally-integrated control link allows for near-range control of drones or remote-rigged vehicles.

Stealth Package (25% = $500) - Usable only on drones of Enc 3 or smaller, this fitting adds color-changing drone sheathing, noise damping, and thermal sealing to the unit. It gains an effective Sneak-1 skill when operating autonomously, or a +2 bonus to Sneak checks when being directly piloted.
Emissions Shielding (20% = $400) - The drone is designed to minimize its electromagnetic emissions and thermal
signature. Skill checks to spot it with such sensors suffer a -2 penalty.

Total Value: $2900

Kami (Shintetsu Mouse)
$500 | AC 13 | TT 6 | HP 1/1 | FIT 1/1 | SPD 5m (ground) | HARD 0/0 | Enc. 2
MODS
Additional Fitting (50% = $250) - Careful optimization of power lines and chassis reinforcement allows for adding an additional fitting to the drone. Man-portable drones add one point of Encumbrance, though this doesn’t affect their maximum hardpoint weapon size.
FITTINGS
Suicide Charge (25% = $125) - With a Main Action command to detonate, the drone will explode, doing 3d6 damage to anyone within ten meters, with an Evasion save for half. Subjects behind solid cover further halve the damage. Drones reduced to zero hit points are too badly damaged to respond to detonation commands.

Total Value: $875

ACQUAINTANCES
Ephraim Dulac: the man who was once Ryoko's squad leader for her enforcer group with in Arabashi Ltd. They've known each other for years, and though they've never been close outside work, they've always shared a bond of trust one would expect of their brothers and sisters in arms. He knows that Ryoko was only fired due to her outspoken distaste for Dynamism, and that he has only remained employed because he was more careful about revealing his similar sentiments. As such, he still views Ryoko with respect and is willing to aid her within reason.

Lil Scotty: a skilled hacker who is a low-ranking member of the 3189 Crew. Ryoko met him doing a security detail for the gang, and helped protect him from some Blood Horde members he tried to pawn some intel off on. He now sees Ryoko as his guardian angel who can keep him safe from his seedy tendencies, and tries to call on her aid more than she'd like. The last time she helped him, she told him off for his lack of discretion and general disloyalty to the 3189, seeing it as a fast way for him to end up dead. Despite her annoyance with the man, she does see him as a useful person to know, as having a contact within the 3189 helps her get new jobs and firmware from the group.

AS Ryoko deploys her drone, the remaining two guards in the smoke act. As one reboots his deactivated cybereyes, fumbling his way around the RV in the cloud, the other takes a shot at Kindred with a heavy pistol. The round grazes against the ballistic weaves embedded in the detective's trench coat, but otherwise leaves Kindred unharmed.

Go Kindred

Mechanics
Ryoko: readies, moves drone.

Guard 1: Reboots cybereyes, moves to take cover behind RV/SUV.

Guard 3: moves, shoots at Kindred, 20 vs ACr = hit for 4 damage, TD = 4 vs TT 7.

Gunpowder vapor and smoke bombs, it smells just like the old days. Idiots, coming out of cover in a place like this. Kindred returns fire, and makes a run for the RV. Will need to recalibrate that eye later, that shot was nowhere on target.

Next round Mechanics
Snap shot from the RV.
[1d20-1]=3-1=2 vs guard 2

Kindred's shot goes wide as the detective makes a run for the RV. He jumps up into the vehicle through the side door into the mostly empty rear compartment and quickly whips round letting off another shot that also misses, as Li Fei's smoke grenade peters out and the cloud begins to dissipate.

Go Li Fei

Mechanics
Kindred: shoots, misses, moves into RV.

Smoke Dissipates

Kindred: snap attacks, shoots, misses.

Li Fei fires off another round from her rifle, the distraction of her cyberdeck connection distracting her from a clean hit.

Li Fei is able to successfully disable the first guard's cybereyes once more. With everyone back inside the RV, one of the guards unloads into the vehicle with his submachine gun, peppering the body work with a burst of gunfire.

Go Ryoko, Reiji

Mechanics
Li Fei: shoots, misses, hacks, 12 vs DC 8 = success, Guard 1's cybereyes are deactivated (reboot with main action).

Guard 2: shoots RV, burst fire, 20 vs AC = hit for 7 damage, reduced to 1 by armour. RV 23/35 HP.

Pop Idol Level 1: I gain Perform as a bonus skill. Once per game week, within an hour of messaging, I can mobilize about a hundred of my fans to perform an act of my choice, no more than mildly criminal or slightly dangerous.  My fans don't have any special skills but can do anything ordinary workers or civilians would. Once per month, I can mobilize them for donations or merch purchases, getting up to $1,000 per character level. This is doubled at 5th level and quadrupled at 10th level.

Pop Idol Level 2: I can mobilize up to a hundred fans per level, though large mobs might draw law enforcement. I have fan leaders who can pass along my wishes and conceal my involvement in the crowd. My donation and merch earnings are doubled. My Charisma modifier is increased by +1, to a max of +2.

Ace Driver Level 1: I gain Drive as a bonus skill. I have "acquired" vehicles worth no more than the budget given on page 18, and can replace lost or destroyed gear at a rate of $10,000 per week. "You'll see," Ryoko responds to Reiji, allowing herself a moment of pride as she smirks slightly in response. As soon as Kindred is back safely within the vehicle, and it is backed out of Kami's range, she detonates her drone in front of them. Boom, she mouths to herself as the explosion begins.

Mechanics
Main Action: detonate Kami
Effect: [3d6]=12 damage to each person and vehicle within 10 meters, Evasion save for half damage. Subjects behind solid cover (should be no one, unless the blast destroys vehicle and there are people inside) further halve the damage.

EDGES AND FOCI

Cyber Maintenance: $10.5k (5% of $210k/Month)(first two months are free)

There is a flash of light from Kami, following by a boom as the drone detonates itself at Ryoko's command. A cloud of dust and sand fills the air, and chunks of broken asphalt bounce off the RV's windshield like rain as it falls back to earth. As the dust clears, it appears two of the guards have been killed instantly, their mangled bloody corpses lying strewn across the road.

The last guard still stands, covered in blood and dust, coughing up more of both as they try to recover from the discombobulation of the explosion and steady themselves.

Go Kindred and Li Fei

Mechanics
Reiji: backs up ~15m.

Ryoko: detonates Kami's Suicide Charge;

Guard 1 - evasion save, 12 vs 14 = fail, takes 12 damage, is killed.

Guard 2 - evasion save, 3 vs 14 = fail, takes 12 damage.

Guard 3 - evasion save, 10 vs 14 = fail, takes 12 damage, is killed.

SUVs take 12 damage reduced to 3 by armour, both at 18/30HP.
Map
No new map as I'm updating at work. You are in the RV approximately 15m SSE of your current locations.
Map Info

"Augh! What the fuck was that?" Li Fei squeals, having missed Ryoko's plotting while distracted in cyberspace. Taking stock of the grisly scene, she spots one remaining corpo still armed, still a risk. Whatever it was, we're winning.

Leaning out the window with her family rifle pointed at the man, the cyberdoc shouts: "Hey, asshole! Toss your toy gun aside and lay down!"

At Li Fei's words the man takes a moment to look around, still a bit disoriented from the blast, but he nods, tossing his submachine to the ground where it clatters against the asphalt before coming to rest a couple of metres away. He raises his hands and slowly gets down onto his knees, his movement clearly pained, before laying down and placing his hands on the back of his head.

"Ok, I did what you asked!" He yells back from his position on the floor.

"Your friend should've done that from the start," Ryoko responds, annoyed at their situation despite her pleasure in the successful deployment of one of her new toys. She sighs. They are just doing their jobs, like you were, she reminds herself, trying not to disconnect herself too much from the man's current predicament. Perhaps he will cooperate now that he has no hope of winning left.

"Since you're the only one of your friends left, you get to be the one to answer our questions. First of which, which Robodyne subsidiary are you working for, and what do you know about your mission out here?"

”We’re with Logan Cybertechnologies,” the man replies. ”I don’t know too much, we were just meant to keep anyone out of the town while the team there look for something.”

You suddenly hear the electronic bleep of a radio squawking to life on the body of the original guard who stopped you at the road block.

<All teams report in, that sounded like gunfire and an explosion, over.>

"Ok, I'm getting up then," the man replies, slowly starting to stand, keeping his hands raised, before making his way over to his dead colleague. He kicks the other guard's gun a little ways away as he passes it, before bending down to pull the radio off his belt.

"This is charlie team," he says, keying the radio. "That was our checkpoint. Just some kids with fireworks. We took care of it, over."

<Copy that charlie, all teams remain at your posts,> comes the reply a second later.

"There," the guard says, dropping the radio.

Li Fei listens closely as the ex-enforcer and detective press their advantage. He's compliant. Which means he's not stupid or suicidal.

"How many teams? And where are the others positioned?" she asks, already out of the RV and headed toward the SUVs.

"Two more blocking the other roads into the town like us, and then a larger group in the town itself," the security guard answers, as Li Fei makes for the SUVs, finding them unlocked. The man's eyes flick between the four of you and the guns still leveled at him as he clearly ponders what will happen to him at the end of his conversation.
Li Fei
Checking over the SUVs you find them empty of any occupants. Takeout containers and empty bottles clutter the passenger footwell of one, where you find a shotgun hung up on a rack above the seats, further searching turns up a box of 5 quick load mags for it in the glovebox, containing 2 shells each. In the trunk of the other vehicle find a pair of Logan Cybertechnologies branded windbreaker jackets.

Having been recording the man's surrender and subsequent revealing of information, Kindred steps out of the RV after Li Fei. He grabs the radio the guard used to give the false report back to his superiors and also picks up his submachine gun from the ground, the other appearing to have been damaged in the explosion.

Reiji puts the RV back into park, relieved that the final man chose to lay down his weapons. Brief panic sets in as he hears the radio crackle. Effective but not exactly subtle... His gritted teeth quickly turn to a smirk, impressed at Kindred's quick thinking and the pliability of the guard. Damn, that actually worked. Buys us some time then.

He looks around at the damaged vehicles and bodies, wondering if they might prove useful. Once carefully out of earshot of the remaining guard, he says to the others, "They're in pretty rough shape but could maybe use their cars and armor to blend in?"

Li Fei thrashes through the takeout containers and empty bottles, looking for anything and everything. She disappears for a moment inside each of the SUVs before climbing out with quite the haul. Ah, shit, yeah. Look at this good stuff.

She brings a pair of Logan Cybertechnologies-branded windbreakers over, handing one to Ryoko. "Now you'll really sell that lie."

Stepping back toward the RV, the cyberdoc climbs inside and tosses the spare windbreaker to Reiji. "And take this, Macho," she says, leaning a shotgun against the console, stacking the several mags in the glovebox.

Li Fei turns toward the injured corpo. "Now you, come," she commands, already unpacking her cyberdoc kit and sterilizing her tools.

"Um, look I'm not going to tell anyone anything," the security guard says nervously as he eyes Li Fei's cyberdoc kit. None the less, he obeys and steps forward, still more concerned about an injection of lead than whatever Li Fei has in store for him.

"Smart answer," Li Fei says with a smug grin. She puts a cuff monitor on his wrist, checking his vitals before administering first aid to his various injuries from the blast.

"So your other teams still looking for this drop?" she asks in a conversational tone as she works.

The man relaxes as it becomes apparent Li Fei only intends to render aid, letting her do so without resistance.

"They didn't tell us what they're looking for, but it seems like they're still looking. From the radio chatter it they're going house by house, room by room, turning over everything," he explains.

Li Fei unstraps the cuff monitor, neatly packing her implements and tools into her metal briefcase, clasping it closed with a snap. "You're all set. Take one of those and get the fuck out of here," she says, pointing at the more-damaged of the two SUVs. "Your days with Logan are done. But hey, if you ever need a tune-up on any of that AWOL chrome, stop by, yeah?" She fishes out a business card to Red Devil Repair, and slides it into the injured man's pocket with a wink.

Ryoko exits the vehicle along with the others, mostly keeping watching for any approaching guard groups while the others loot the corpses and wreckage. When Li Fei begins working on the injured man, she follows close by, keeping a safe distance to help keep the man at ease. When it becomes clear Li Fei intends to let the man go, her mind races with a mixture of doubts. He was just doing his job, but how loyal of a dog is he? Sparing his life is one thing, but simply letting the man go from here before we are done? That could get us all killed. What the fuck is she thinking.

"You leave first, that way," Ryoko says, deciding that she will not intervene, but likewise not wanting to risk any of their safety by letting a potential snitch go free.  She points towards the road they'd just approached from, back towards the city, and wears a face as stern as she ever has while she speaks. He can go, but I'll be watching.

OOC/Mechanics
When the man is in the car and driving away, assuming he follows her instructions, Ryoko will remove Hae (her hummingbird drone) from her pack and have it tail the man until either he deviates from the instructions, or until it reaches its operational radius, after which point she'd have it return to her.

"Fuck," the man says, clearly weighing up the out you've given him. "I'll be blacklisted by the corps for sure, but I guess that's better than dead," he says, glancing at the three bodies scattered around the roadblock.

"Ok, I'll go."

He stands and heads for the SUVs. He climbs into one and starts the engine, before slowly navigating around the chaos and setting off back towards the City, leaving the four of you stood alone in the road. Ryoko releases her hummingbird drone once the car is a little ways down the road, following after it.

Kindred wants to be able to play the recorded message when needed.
Does het need to do anything special for that? He does have a cyberjack to connect the recording to a audio player.

With a cranial jack you would be able to play the recordings on any device capable of playing them by jacking into it.

Reiji's eyes trace over the shape of the shotgun, a smirk forming on his face. "Thanks for the gift, Red," he says, taking off his own racing jacket and slipping on the windbreaker. More into repping KCAI but whatever. Helps us blend. As he watches the SUV starts fading on the horizon, he looks to the others with crossed arms. "So now what? Take two, but with a little more credibility and a swanky-ass, half-wrecked SUV to really sell it?"

"Two drivers, two windbreakers. Same lie, told better this time," Li Fei reasons. "RV full of hired experts are being escorted in to triangulate where this lost drop went. I mean, shit, if we steer clear, we may not even have to bump into these goons."

"And what do we say about the damage? We already lied about the sounds being from fireworks, but we can't hide that the SUV is now suffering from being crashed into and hit with an explosion." While speaking, she focuses her attention on Hae, curious to see if the man had followed instructions.

OOC
What does Ryoko see when checking her pursuing drone? Any signs of deviation from his orders so far?

"I can play the recording, and repeat that it's all good. Can't hide it forever, but as long as nobody comes to check up in person, we should be good." Kindred replies to Ryoko.
"That was our checkpoint... static We took care of it, over." Kindred plays, to show his plan.

"Could always say we swerved to avoid the fireworks and crashed into each other or something," Reiji suggests to his cousin, looking at the dented SUV in front of them. "Or blame it on some really technical car malfunction. I could probably BS something that sounds plausible to someone who knows nothing about cars." Yeah, sorry chief, our dynamic intermodal calibrator locked up and fucked with our automated stabilization systems. Can't do anything when the DIC fucks with the ASS.

"Let's worry less about what these goons are going to think of us and more about finding this blackmail drop," Li Fei insists. "They're not going to be expecting anybody unwanted inside their cordoned-off perimeter for some time, seeing as how we gave the all-clear. Let's just keep our distance from anybody we come across. Maybe finding that scavver's toolbox can be an easy first step. Ice machine, gas station, middle of town," she recites. "Let's get there."

She climbs into the RV, taking a seat next to Reiji.

"Right, that is true," Ryoko responds, agreeing with Li Fei's reasoning. Just avoid more of them all together and we don't have to explain any vehicle damage. "So far this guy's doing what he said he would, so we won't have to worry about him ratting us out either," she continues, after checking the status via her hummingbird drone. "Let's go," she adds, as she hops into the back seat of the vehicle, seated on the driver's side.

With Kindred and Ryoko in the corpo SUV and Reiji and Li Fei bringing up the rear in the RV, you set off once more, continuing down the road towards the town. You soon hit the abandoned houses of its outskirts, driving past them as you head for the gas station in the centre of the ghost town. The radio crackles with the occasional chatter, mostly members of the search team reporting nothing found. From the way they are talking it sounds like they are currently searching a couple of houses somewhere in the old settlement.

You soon arrive at the centre of the town, where two once major roads meet. A node of commercial activity appears to have once formed around the intersection, with the gas station on one corner and a diner and a number of other shuttered up stores on the others. The gas station consists of a large square concrete pad with ranks of pumps, sheltered by a weathered canopy. A burnt out neon pylon sign sits at the corner of the intersection, displaying prices at least six times less than the current ones in the City. In the back corner of of forecourt, a small store sits nestled in the corner of the adjacent buildings' walls. Boarded up and covered in graffiti, you assume it must house the gas station's ice machine, and by extension, Zig Zag's toolbox.

Coming to a stop at the intersection and looking around, the area seems quiet, devoid of any Logan search teams. However a large black truck sits parked up by the old rusted pumps of the gas station. Larger than the SUVs and sporting several antennas, it is likely the mobile command centre for the whole Logan search operation.
Ryoko
As set off towards the town, your drone begins to hit its range limit and you call it back - the other SUV still headed away from the town and back to the City.

Li Fei dials Kindred's number, waiting until he picks up. I wonder if the old-timer's got a ringtone. A real cheesy, jazz ballad or something. Probably doesn't need it, though. With all that chrome, I bet he's got better hearing than the rest of us. Except Ryoko, maybe. She's got some wild Robodyne shit. Can't wait to take a peek under the hood. No, not like that. Gross.

Her spiral of thoughts is interrupted with the line connecting, and she taps the speaker audio on for Reiji.

<Hey, the gas station — let's get Zug Zug's shit first. Also, you see that big, black shitbox over there, Kindred? Anybody sitting inside? I'm thinking maybe I tap into their system. Compare notes.>

She takes out her cyberdeck, spinning it between her palms as she glances around the once-city.

Reiji pulls to a stop at the intersection, gritting his teeth as he spies the command center parked right at their destination. Of course they had to set up camp right here. Guess it is smack dab in the middle though, so. His eyes flick to the burnt-out sign listing the price and he frowns. Damn, imagine if it were still that cheap. The places I could go...

He's pulled from his fantasy of affordable gasoline as Li Fei starts speaking, shaking his head to force himself to focus.

<Might get our asses called out quicker than we wanted if we pull up alongside those guys, but not like we've got a choice. Say, Kindred, what frequency is their radio on? Lot easier for Red to tap in if we don't have to figure out which encrypted channel they're on.>

<My deck can reach their antenna from here. I can't jam their broadcasts, but I could just flat-out power it down,> Li Fei suggests. <It would leave them in the dark from backup, you know, if we wanted to go hot, try and gain access the hard way.>
