Newcomer Guide
If you’re new to the Ganoltir Project, then welcome to our community! Whether you’re here to worldbuild, do creative writing, or simply to hop into some play-by-post DND campaigns, then here is a guide to getting started.
- First, check out our Discord server. You can meet our small community here.
- Looking for what sort of DND campaigns we’re running? Check out our list of active games here.
- If you’d like, read our lore primer. It’s about 20 pages long, but feel free to skim it or read only what interests you. Our lore primer is locatedĀ here!
- Go to our Forums on the navigation bar above, and make an account. That’s where we play DND!
- Feel free to browse our Wiki, which has a lot of historical write-ups on everything from religious history to wars and magic. It also appears above, in the navigation bar. It’s a work in progress, so there are some blank pages here and there.
That’s it! We hope you’ll have fun exploring and helping to build the world of Ganoltir together!
FAQ
What is the Ganoltir Project?
A world-building experiment to document a low-magic, but changing world across almost two thousand years of history. Using DND games, creative writing, and casual discussion, we flesh out this fantasy realm of Ganoltir to paint a living and realistic picture of its denizens.
How do you play DND online?
Through our forums, typically. While slower and requiring a learning curve, play-by-post (PBP) role-playing gives the potential for an incredibly detail to character-building and story interaction. We have several campaigns running at once, and it takes about a few minutes a day to post in each one you’re involved in.
What edition of DND?
4th edition. While not as popular and seen as a strange one-off by much of the DND community, 4e is very grid-based and tactical, which tends to match the slow, methodical pace of PBP. Think of it like anĀ RPG mixed with chess. The level of customization for your build is unparalleled by any other edition. Take a fighter — you can make them anything from a dexterity-based swashbuckler to a poleaxe-wielding guardian.
Who are you people?
We are about a dozen geeks in our twenties and thirties. Most of us are spread across the US, but we have some overseas as well. We welcome folks from any background, so if you share the same love for DND, worldbuilding, or creative writing, you’ll definitely fit in!
No, I mean who is writing this blog?!
Pay no attention to the GROM behind the curtain.
