"Excellent," Nico responds, smirking with a quick nod as the party finalizes its debt-collecting plans. "Then I'll leave it in your more-than-capable hands, aye? Be seeing you then." With these last words, Nico offers a quick wave before striding out of sight into the villa.
Gina watches him walk off, an expression on her face akin to a mother judging her child. She lets out a sigh, and turns towards Nyx. Tilting her head, she asks, "Oh? Is it something important? What's on your mind?"

"I'll be outside," Idrig says, giving Nyx space to air her thoughts. "Let's try and get these done before nightfall."
He steps out the front door of the estate, taking a pipe from a handy pocket on his belt and jamming a thimble-full of tobacco in. A nearby torch serves its purpose and the dwarf leans against the wall, taking a few puffs. Another job or two of this and then I might have what I need to leave this shithole. Idrig smiles. Blowing smoke upwards to the sky, he watches the street idly.

Narciso would shake his head dramatically as Nico walked off; "What a handsome showoff. I like his style." He says with a laugh before registering what Nyx had said. He nodded and gave a polite bow to Gina, "We'll be back soon, with our task complete." He'd say, and after a moment would step outside with Idrig, finding a spot a few paces away to crouch down comfortably, waiting for the others.

"No. Well, sort of." Nyx says, still somewhat unsure of the idea she planned to propose. "A bit, I guess. When looking for escape routes we encountered a young woman at a brothel, and I saw a lot of my won struggles in her. She seems to be a victim of this city as much as any of the rest of us."
She pauses to collect her thoughts before continuing, saying, "the brothel matron has taken her in and seems to be a polite enough employer, but it was clear she was not happy working in such a trade. I was wondering..." she says, looking up at Gina. "Do you think there is something you could do for her? That we could do for her? Perhaps find a place for her here, at the villa."

With the others leaving the room, Ciraco decides to follow after them, leaving Nyx and Gina to have their conversation alone. Stepping outside he finds Narciso crouched down and Idrig leaning against the wall smoking.
"We could leave now if you're ready?" He asks Idrig. "Then you, Luca and Nyx can go after the Amkharan once Nyx and Gina are done talking," he adds turning to Narciso .

"No time like the present," Idrig agrees. "Let me see that note for a moment." Should Ciraco let him, he copies it onto a small piece of parchment and hands that to Luca. "There. One for each group."
Turning back to Ciraco, he puts out his pipe and tightens his coat around his shoulders. "Now, let's go find this Bretz."

Luca gives a quick wave to Ciraco and Idrig as they head off in search of their quarry.
"Good luck," he says plainly, leaning against the gatepost.
Nyx- [SHOW]
- Gina hms quietly, her face contorting into thought before she looks towards back towards you. "It's clear you have a kind heart, one of empathy and warmth." She pauses for a moment, seeming to hesitate. "I cannot make any promise. It is difficult to know who we might trust in this business, I'm sure you're aware. But..." she trails, with a sigh. "I will send one of our own to meet with her. Perhaps in time, should the stars align in such a way."
She crosses her arms and gives a slight smile. "Do not let this city change that about you, that warmth. It could use more of that. Now, you'd best be off."

After a moment, Nyx exits the villa grounds though the gates.
"Ready to pay an Amkharan a visit? The other two went on ahead."
Ciraco & Idrig- [SHOW]
- Waving the others goodbye, you delve into the city streets, bustling by now as much of its visitors and inhabitants are awake and going about their day. After a bit of wandering, you come across a street with an ornate plaque labeled Strada Calixtus. The homes along this street look to be quite large and opulent, at least compared to the average you've seen. It's a quieter road, absent of the loud tourists and merchants peddling wares. There are only a handful of others walking down the street, exceptionally well-dressed and passing glances at you as they stroll.
As you walk down the street, you notice that many of the homes to have some sort of plaque or ornamentation adorning the door.

"Keep an eye out for a Tulrissian crest," He says to Idrig, recalling the line for Bretz on the note.

Ciraco- [SHOW]
- With your familiarity with typical Brennisian symbolism, you're able to immediately notice a few of the plaques that seem particularly out of place.
The first is a round crest cast in bronze or a similar metal. It appears to feature a pair of crossed cutlasses with a gleaning sun symbol beneath them.
Next, you spot a shield-shaped crest. Its base is red and white checkerboard with a large green creature you can only assume is meant to be a toad in its center. It appears flanked by two halberds facing it.
Finally, you spot another shield-shaped crest. It is solidly blue with a wavelike pattern in white. It has a golden crescent moon and the shape of a dolphin beneath it.
Idrig- [SHOW]
- You recall that Tulrissian crests are often complex shield-shaped designs, bearing symbols of weaponry or various animals drawn in almost absurdly-stylized ways, as if someone had never seen the animal they were supposedly drawing.
Searching the street, you notice a few that fit your expectations.
The first is a round crest cast in bronze or a similar metal. It appears to feature a pair of crossed cutlasses with a gleaning sun symbol beneath them.

Finally, you see a square-shaped plaque with orange and black stripes. In its center, you spot some sort of white animal that you're unable to quite place. It looks like a dog, but when you squint, it appears to be more of a lion. Or perhaps a dragon. You find it difficult to place.
Narciso- [SHOW]
- You're wholly unsure where to go initially, but you recall the parchment mentioning a restaurant called Sekiko located in Piazza Vittoria.

"Pah, there's a few of them on this block that might be our mark. Plenty helpful for Nico not to give us a fucking address."
Idrig frowns, giving the three crests another look. "That one might be our best bet," he says, pointing at the twin-halberd, toad-adorned, shield-shaped crest. I wonder if our nobleman has warts, too.
The dwarf turns to Ciraco, studying him. "How do you want to play this?"

"I think that one is our best bet," Ciraco says as Idrig points out one of the crests he had also spotted.
"What are the chances he's willing to pay immediately, he just hasn't gotten around to it yet?" He replies rhetorically. "Threatening him would be my first choice," he suggests. "Chances are as a noble he's not used to dealing with many people like us."

Nyx blushes at Gina's point, and is slightly disheartened by words, but she gets it. I should have known it wouldn't be so easy, obviously they have to make sure things are safe before recruiting a new person. I hope she is given a shot. It doesn't take much for this city to break you, she thinks, as she nods to her patron and heads back out to the others.
She is a bit startled when she sees only Luca waiting for her, but is not surprised at his words. Of course they went on ahead, that is very like them, she thinks. "Yes, lead the way," she responds to the man, giving him a forced smile.

"Well no time like the present," Ciraco says as he sets off towards the door of their chosen house.

Idrig follows Ciraco's lead, making his way toward what he hopes is the Bretz household. He stands with hands clasped behind him, a bored look on his face. Ciraco & Idrig- [SHOW]
- Not a moment after Ciraco begins pounding on the door, you hear a grunt and a loud thud echoing past the wood. A minute or so later, the door swings open, shaking on its hinges. For a moment, you only see an imposing shadow.
As your eyes adjust to the foyer's lighting, you see it's a tall, muscular man. He has shoulder-length brown hair and looks to be wearing a scowl on his face. From the look of his face, he's within his early thirties, but the stubble and scars betray his years. His deep green eyes shift between the two of you, and with a low, gritty voice, he asks, "Can I help you? I'm not interested in whatever pisswater drinks your tavern has." His accent is undeniably Tulrissian, though his Common is flawlessly spoken.
Narciso & Nyx- [SHOW]
- With the three of you finally gathered, Luca says, "Right. The note said Piazza Vittoria. Be on the lookout when we get there." It's a straight-forward walk to the plaza, right down one of the city's main roads. By this hour, the city streets are bustling, and only growing more crowded as you delve deeper into the beating heart of Teiros. Loud tourists gab in their native tongues while merchants peddle their overpriced wares to those gullible or desperate enough to pay.
The journey goes off without any trouble. Soon, you find yourself in Piazza Vittoria. It's packed with people coming and going, merchants, street performers, every bit of life that makes this city what it is. "Sekiko..." Luca echoes as you arrive, scanning for the their quarry.

Narciso walked along with Luca and Nyx, just enjoying the walk for once. He quietly stifled the urge to pick up the pace and walk ahead of them- his natural urge to try and find the quickest path limited by the fact he just... didn't know where the restaurant was. As they arrived at the Piazza, Narciso looked around with some fervor, licking his lips.
"I hope the Sekiko's got good food... D'ya think... Can we get something to eat while we look for our quarry?" He says, trying to count in his head how much gold he should have on hand.

The man raises his arms in surrender as you two tease your weapons. "Now now, we don't need any trouble..." He lets out a sigh and looks back into his home and nods for a brief moment. He carries a worried expression. Looking back towards you, he says, "Please, come in. There is more we need to discuss." He steps aside, letting you step into the foyer.
When inside, your eyes quickly adjust to the warm glow of the interior's sconces, little natural light coming through the closed curtains. To your left, you spot an alcove that appears to be a staircase to the residence's second floor. Past that, you spot what seems to be a dining room. On your right, you see a parlor. The man from the door gestures towards the parlor. Entering it, you spot a short, effeminate man, wearing a somewhat frilly white and pink frock. He has short yet shaggy blonde hair. He stands when you enter, brushing on his coat neatly. "I apologize for any misunderstanding. My husband is quite protective. But it is me you want. I am Dierk Bretz." He speaks with a soft voice, his Tulrissian accent more refined than the prior man's.
He gestures towards two elegant armchairs across from the couch where he's seated. "Worry not, I have your gold, and then some. But I wish to revise our contract... to increase it."
"I'm not sure we'll have the time for that... Nor is it a great idea to order food from the man we're to be getting money from." Luca shrugs, returning to his search.
As you scan through the plaza, your eyes lock on an intricately-designed red and black sign posted above a building. The Amkharan characters catch your eye, and you notice Sekiko written in traditional Common letters next to it. There are a pair of large windows in the front of the building, and you're able to tell that the restaurant is quite busy, likely the lunch rush.
With how crowded the plaza is today, you're struggling to spot the signboard indicating where the restaurant is.

- The dandy nods to you and then toward his apparent husband. The burly man disappears into another room for a moment, reappearing with two large coinpurses and a smaller one. He sets them down on a low table between the seats. Dierk gestures to the larger pair. "Those two should cover my outstanding debts, I believe." Examining the contents of the bags, you find they contain exactly the amount agreed upon, per Nico's note.
"Should you be satisfied, I would like to discuss the other urgent matters... As I said, I would like to increase my contract. I believe my life is in danger, and I've need of your employer's protection." He gives both of you a quick once-over, stroking his chin in thought. "Or perhaps the two of you would do..."

"Perfect!" Ciraco says after examining the coins. He takes both bags and stows them away in his jacket.
"Why do you think your life is in danger?" The mercenary asks. The offer of work outside of their current arrangement with the Saluccis does tempt him, with the cut almost certain to be bigger, but he waits for more information to see if its worth what could be seen as a betrayal by some.

Idrig looks at the coins with a tense longingness as his partner counts and stows them. Fifteen hundred. That's enough to pay those fools off and get my research back. Enough that I could walk from this shithole city free and get back to the mainland.
Ciraco's question interrupts his thoughts, and he takes a seat in one of the armchairs, waiting for answers. I wonder how loyal this mercenary is to the Saluccis. Well, for starters, he is a mercenary. He is loyal to the coin in the hand, not who either belong to.

Ciraco & Idrig- [SHOW]
- Dierk shifts in his chair uncomfortably for a moment, letting out a weak sigh. He looks up towards the two of you, concern showing clearly on his face. "For some years, I've lived here in peace and comfort, after I fled my monster of a father. He wanted me dead, you see..." His voice trails for a moment, and he looks down, dejectedly. His husband sits next to him, placing an arm around the young man to comfort him.
"Gina and her family have kept me safe and concealed for now... Safe from the hired thugs my father sends. But a few days ago, in the Piazza, I saw someone..." He gulps, now looking more distraught than simply concerned. "Fulke Horsfall. My father's righthand man and executioner. A hulking man from the Tulrissian highlands." Dierk looks between the two of you, clasping his hands together. "Please, deal with Fulke before he catches my trail. I will reward you quite well, I promise."
Nyx & Narciso- [SHOW]
- Moving through the midday plaza crowd, you find yourself at Sekiko's entrance. It has a large wooden set of double doors, intricately carved with symbols of the Ghian spirits. Flanking it are two open-air windows, which you can see have paper screens that can slide to close them. Peering in, you find the restaurant to be quite busy, with dozens of tables filled with patrons, and waiters weaving through while carrying intricate dishes on wooden trays.
A pleasant savory smell wafts in your direction, grilled meats and vegetables, and other unfamiliar but enticing odors. As you step inside, a young Amkharan woman behind a small wooden counter bows to you. "Welcome to Sekiko. A table for three?"

Fulke the Hulk, Idrig muses to himself, his demeanor unchanging. Sounds like quite a specimen to test my latest concoction. I wonder — how much does a body's mass affect the ratios of reactants?
"Your father," the dwarf says, pulling himself back to the man's troubles. "Do you think this Fulke works for him due to loyalty, or a handsome salary?"
For now, he avoids committing to aiding the man. I have no fealty to these Saluccis; they are a means to an end. But proving loyalty by bringing them into this situation would be wise. On the other hand, running this alone would be more profitable. Hm. He must be considering these same questions, Idrig thinks, glancing over at Ciraco as he listens.

There'd be two of us and he wouldn't know its coming, Ciraco thinks, already mulling over their options for dealing with Fulke.
Perhaps impressing Gina, will lead to more gold over time if we can prove we're the more cable members of this budding crime family, he thinks as he begins to lean towards taking the job but still reporting it to the Saluccis.
"Say we were to deal with him for you. Can you tell us where we'd find him, and importantly what sort of reward are we talking about here?" He asks, keen to still gather some more information before committing.

Idrig & Ciraco- [SHOW]
- Dierk lets out an exaggerated sigh at Idrig's question. "My father has referred to Fulke as 'the son he never had,' so it goes well beyond who has the bigger coinpurse. And in case you needed proof of what my father thinks of me... But so long as I live, I may at least spite his perverted family." He turns towards Ciraco, looking upwards in thought for a moment. "That I can't say for certain. Likely Palazzo Lumino. Father isn't one for discretion, or one to pass up a chance to flaunt his wealth when making these arrangements. As for the reward..." He taps the smaller pouch, and you hear it jingle in a way more akin to gemstones than coin.
Narciso & Nyx- [SHOW]
- Looking around the restaurant, you notice a circular table towards the rear corner. Seated at the table, you see a fairly young and handsome Amkharan man, wearing some sort of black robe with red designs embroidered into the fabric. He seems to be surrounded by a diverse group of men and women, all dressed in attire befitting the upper echelons of the merchant class.

Dierk shifts uncomfortably in his seat for a moment after you speak, staring off towards the wall. He lets out a deep sigh, turning back towards you. "Of course," he says plainly. "He's a man in his late twenties, same as myself. And at least six and a half feet, not that I've ever measured the man. At least not his height." At this, Dierk smirks, while his husband looks away, scowling for a moment before joining in a smirk. After a few moments' silence, Dierk begins again. "He has long dark brown hair, though he usually in a topknot. Trimmed beard, a scar across his left cheek. And his eyes..." His voice wanders off again, staring similarly to moments before. "Green, but not the pretty sort. The malicious sort, that just seem to pierce through you."
Spotting Nyx's subtle cue for backup, Luca chimes in after Narciso, looking more at the man than the hostess. "Aye, that's them alright. If you'll excuse us."
The hostess gives Narciso a peculiar look, raising her eyebrow before subtly shrugging and turning back towards Nyx. "Very well then. Enjoy your meal." She gives you a quick bow before turning her attention towards a small group entering behind you. Weaving through the sea of tables, you grow closer to your quarry. You can see, however, that your approach does not escape his notice, and his eyes are locked upon you as he sips tea.
"Hm. Lost kittens in the tiger's den?" His voice is deep and serious and exudes confidence. He sets his cup down, smirking towards you. He turns to those at his table, and lets out an exaggerated sigh. "It seems lunch is over for today. A pity it came before dessert. Same time next week, yes?" The merchants quickly gather their belongings, grumbling and bowing to the man, before departing the way you'd came. He takes a sip of his tea again and sighs. "Thank the Spirits you came along. I tire of entertaining those sorts. Now, tea? Or do we have business? You clearly sought this table for a reason." His tone seems much more relaxed now, though still just as confident. He waves for a waitress, who brings three additional teacups and a fresh, piping hot porcelain teapot. If we're to do business, I insist on tea anyways."

"Distinctive," Ciraco says as Dierk describes their quarry. He could be a formidable opponent though, especially if things go sideways. Maybe it is best overall to involve the others, he thinks, glancing over at Idrig. "I think we can handle him for you," he says, coming to the conclusion that regardless of if they cut in the Saluccis or not, there's no reason to turn the job down.

Idrig nods as he catches Ciraco's look. Good. Same page, then.
"I'm confident we can," the dwarf agrees. "We'll start our search today. Unless there is anything else, we have more business to attend to first."

Dierk appears to visibly relax at your confirmation, taking a deep sigh and sinking into his seat for a moment. Pulling himself back up, he clasps his hands together. "Thank you. You have no idea how much this means to me. And when the job is done, and I've proof of its completion, you'll earn your payment." He nods at the two of you, standing up from his seat. "I've nothing else, so I'll leave you to your business. Should you need anything more, you know where to find me." He offers a polite smile and walks to the front door, opening it and giving you a bow as you step out into the bright midday's sun. "Take care, and best of luck. Gods be with you."
As soon as you step into the street, the door quietly closes behind you. With one payment taken care of, you recall the others were to make their way to a restaurant know as Sekiko in the Piazza.

Stepping out of the Tulrissian's small manor, Idrig pulls his coat tighter and looks up at Ciraco. "To the Piazza, then," he says, making his way in the general direction of the others.
"For one, I didn't expect him to pay up. I guess he's really sweating after this Fulke, hm? Do you think we should run the job past the family, or do you think this one counts as a bit of side work?" The dwarf eyes Ciraco, trying to read him closely. He's no fool it seems. He must have at least considered the same choice.
