On Religion in Ganoltir

Note: The sections on this page are meta-knowledge that would not be known by any mortals.

There are 11 actual deities that exist canonically in the world of Ganoltir. These gods have existed since time immemorial, and often take action (though usually indirect and cryptic) on the playing field of Ganoltir. The denizens of the world do not worship, or even know about them, directly. There are many religions in Ganoltir, and the varying levels of worship or belief that the people exhibit may or may not be unwittingly based on a true god.

For example, when dwarves worship Karr the Judge, they are actually giving prayer to the God of Order. However, when they worship Fauren the Builder, their prayers are in vain, since there is no true god that corresponds to the tenets that Fauren the Builder represents. Some religions worship deities that are actually comprised of multiple true gods. An example of this is Sek-bas, the Serran Goddess of Cats, Fire, and the Sun. When followers of the Serran Pantheon worship Sek-bas, they are actually heeding prayer to both the God of Fauna, and the God of Fire.

Norendezzar

A once-powerful magister-king in Forelle, he has since become an undead demi-god intent on ascending fully to godhood and, eventually, ruling over all of the gods. He has a following called The Cult of Three Eyes.

A Note on Champions

The true gods do not sit idly, watching the world of Ganoltir. Each of them has a unique way of bringing change and action on the world as they see fit. Some are jealous of the mortals' praise to some extent, going out of their way to pit themselves against the other true gods in an attempt to receive more prayer or worship.

Many of the true gods create what we call Champions. These are mortals that are unwittingly guided toward a particular purpose. Some may have strange powers that they cannot trace the origin. Some may have temperaments or motivations that shape their entire personality. Each of these Champions have been touched by one of the true gods, in an attempt to have a direct proxy into the living world. These Champions are not directly controlled, nor do they know the truth about this connection, but they are generally headstrong individuals that have devoted their lives to achieving a purpose that feels absolutely fundamental to them.
